Government broadband signals heavier public debt - article
The fact is there wouldn't be Chattanooga EPB, had other broadband providers payed attention to Chattanooga. In this case, it was the public that put broadband into their own hands, and not some forced Government Over-Reach as the article insinuates.
In fact outlying Chattanooga areas are dying to have EPB expand to their areas. This is because in many cases, they have very few if any other options.
Because of Chattanooga's EPB, and gigabit deployments, the town was able to secure some pretty big corporations because the internet infrastructure was already there! This created and is continuing to create jobs for the area.
Let's get off of our "Government over-reach" high horses, and let the city of Chattanooga decide what they want to do, instead of these huge ISP's dictating law to the State of Tennessee.
RE: The Internet is not like an electric or water utility
This news item is worth reading. It lays out in clear steps why having the FCC reclassify the internet as a utility is a big mistake. And it is written by an academic and not some lobbyist for ISPs. »seattletimes.com/html/op ··· ml.html?
