Turning Multimedia Super Corridor into global hub

THE Multimedia Development Corp (MDC) plans to focus on three key strategies to grow the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) into a global information and communications technology (ICT) hub by 2010. “To achieve our objective, the MDC will review incentives (the Bill of Guarantees) to encourage ICT and research and development and attract greater multinational corporations presence,” said MDC’s new CEO, Badlisham Ghazali. The plan also calls for the rollout of the MSC to the rest of Malaysia to enhance the local ICT industry, and increase usage and adoption of innovative domestic ICT products and services. Badlisham said the MSC had entered its second phase, or “the next leap” from the period 2004 to 2010 where the major thrust will be to grow the MSC into a global ICT hub. MDC’s major initiatives in this “next leap” phase will encompass creating a web of corridors within Malaysia; creating and promoting MSC Global (world class companies); enhancing current flagships and introducing introduce new flagships to improve Malaysia’s competitiveness.
