UK ISPs Lose Appeal, Forced to Be Content Nannies Warn Law Means Higher Rates, Privacy Issues UK ISPs British Telecom and Talk Talk have lost their appeal and are now being forced to send users warning letters and potentially terminate the connections of users who exchange copyrighted files. Both ISPs had tried to argue that the UK's Digital Economy Act, passed largely in secret without public input like any good piece of Hollywood-written protectionist legislation -- was incompatible with EU law. "Though we have lost this appeal, we will continue fighting to defend our customers' rights against this ill-judged legislation," says Talk Talk -- which has argued the requirements will raise costs on consumers and ISPs while creating entirely new privacy problems.

Intellectual property is the new drug war. Unwinnable and costly.
The ever increasing criminalization of copy and paste should alarm everyone.

There is a difference here. People want drugs, but are willing to pay for them. People want music and movies and want it for free.
| | | | | Re: Enough already. People want drugs for free too. They pay because they are forced to. I guarantee if you leave a pile of drugs around a drug addict, they wouldn't hesitate to take them for free. (pointless argument I know, just wanted to point out the flaw lol) | |

I'm surprised you favor so much government interference given your previous signature.
The markets can sort out these issues naturally. ( given the drug example, many people prefer to pay premium for sources of known quality )
Perhaps the music industry should focus more on live performances since you can't copy and paste the experience and excitement of a live in person show.

Heck we don't even have Habeas Corpus back here in the US yet. To top it all off protesting is now practically neutered. You can go to jail for something your unaware of while protesting downtown.
