88,000 homes to get more fiber...

I'll apologize ahead of time for the lame puns, and note that the town of Bournemouth is the first town in the UK to use sewer lines to help deliver broadband services. More than 88,000 homes will now have access to fiber thanks to a $58 million project by H20 Networks. Paris has also been deploying a significant volume of fiber in the city's sewer system. Maryland-based CityNet Telecommunications made a splash back in 2001 for developing a fiber-laying sewer robot, but after $275 million in VC investment the idea never quite flushed. With the development of Corning's recent bendable fiber, perhaps this will be an increasingly common deployment method. Obviously, this isn't to be confused with Google's revolutionary TISP system.

Flush twice it is a long way to the POP

Remember no web cams in my toilet.
I want a double gasket where the fiber enters the network interface.

I wouldn't want to be the telecom tech that has to troubleshoot a fiber cut problem.

WC-Fi

Perhaps rather get congestion due to too much fiber in the sewers, the sewer pipes should be used as a waveguide/coaxial cable, just aim a Yagi antenna at toilet staring down into it, perhaps it can be called WC-Fi (WiC-Fi), for Water Closet Fidelity.

yea but question is when you are at the dinner table and say "my tubes are clogged" are they going to know you mean Internet tubes or personal tubes?

yea they won't know to call the ISP or get you some pepto-bismol.

Personally I think as a gag gift I would get them the pepto-inet-bismol. Declogs your internet.

What's the SLA on the business class of this type of connection, anyways? And do you get free plumbing service if your connection if the link "goes down the tubes"?

That's known as a LAN (Local Area Nuggets) connection instead of a WAN (Wide Area Nuggets) connection. You need an STS adapter, LOL (Sewer to Septic)
