An equipment malfunction at Windstreams Lincoln switching facility caused the problems Thursday, and affected more than just Lincoln. Many customers across 22 counties were unable to contact 911. Dispatch centers had to provide other ways to report emergencies.
Windstream Communications confirmed Friday that phone service has been restored to Southeast Nebraska. A representative said service has been stable since 11:20 p.m. Thursday.
