Exactly what is so hard about offering even 8 Mbps? Geez. I can get 10/1 from Charter NOW, soon to be 16/2. When that happens the 10/1 tier will be $50 so why would I pay almost the same for 6/1?

If I don't want the TV part I'm paying a lot of month for nothing. I live in former BS territory and at&t naked DSL is $47 for 6/512. So yes $50 for 10/1 is MUCH better.

| Re: Yawn 2.0 There are several discussions regarding subscribing to UVerse and then dropping the TV portion. Comparing AT&T's DSL and UVerse service isn't fair for your price comparison unless you only mean to compare DSL to cable HSI. In our (I'm in BS territory as well) situation, assuming reliable service from both AT&T and the cableco, I'd agree with you that the cost is a wash. The "much better" claim is debatable though. | |

Comparing AT&T's DSL and UVerse service isn't fair for your price comparison unless you only mean to compare DSL to cable HSI. The DSL is 6/512 the uverse is 6/1, not much differnce the comparison is valid. Uverse isn't available where i live and no one has yet produced a stand alone price for uverse internet so I have to go by what data I do have.

| I agree. Many people think fast internet is just websites loading quickly. And for them, it is. Give them a 3mbps and a 20mbps connection, and they won't be able to tell the difference. I've also actually heard from one of my friends that he is much more satisfied with his Uverse TV over the DirecTV he had, mostly because he had problems with DTV and getting good reception (even after multiple hardware changes). | |

I am currently getting 10mb/s on cable and I have heard they are in the middle of a new update to the network that will provide faster speeds soon. --

| i think they pushing more for the internet+TV combo than speed. For me, it would be a ~20 dollars cheaper (dsl+digital cable, but the dsl is bundled with phone), but i think i would get rid of most channels. if U-verse was available to me, i would drop most channels and get a faster internet connection.
either way, thoses speeds are not that impressive, especially for a short hop on VDSL from the fiber node. my guess is that they are capping for either uniform speeds (no need for '*actual speeds may vary due to line quality and distance'), no competition, or no 'need' (as in they claim the end users don't have a use for speed over X Mbps). i would think low double digit downstream speeds should be attainable given the assumes distances, unless vdsl speeds do drop of dramatically.

I don't think at&t or any ISP for that matter is going to upgrade speeds for a certain segment of BBR users using hollywood quotes like that was so two years ago...

Im not sure, you might want to ask that in the Uverse forum. Ive heard adsl2+, vdsl, and ftth in connection with uverse, I guess it depends on the area.
My area says "We're Sorry - AT&T U-verse service is not yet available based on your entry" -- Do ye, quieting in your bosoms your strong hearts, Who of many good things have had your fill even to surfeit, With what is moderate nourish your mighty desire; for neither will We yield, nor shall you have all else as you wish. | I think Some Chicago burbs are soon I've been talking about it lately because I want the service and I think I'm within the service area when it starts.
However what I've seen lately is that AT&T is advertising in the local Employment Guide paper for Install techs with *some* computer experience to install a "new service from AT&T"
I've seen the burbs of Chicago really getting quite covered in VRADS but I've seen none in Chicago exactly, I have seen markings and I've seen one huge uncovered fiber line but no actual VRADS. One thing about the various blaces I've seen installations is that they have wiring closets more than vaults and more than ample right of away area.

| U-verse max rate I have been with U-verse since January 2007. Here are my stats from the modem:
*******************************************
DSL Down Up Current Rate: 25216 kbs 2048 kbs Max Rate: 60632 kbs Not Available ******************************************* Max Rate used to be around 89000 kbs before their "upgrades"
But who cares about those max rates if it is not even being used for anything!
Maybe in some distant future?
