U-Verse Whole Home DVR Hits 7 New Areas
Market by market U-Verse upgrades continue....
by Karl Bode Tuesday 14-Oct-2008 tags: business · telco · TVIP · AT&T U-Verse
AT&T continues their staggered deployment of both dual HD streams (the bandwidth demands being a major reason why they recently updated their TOS) and "whole-home DVR" functionality. The free DVR upgrade allows U-Verse IPTV customers to watch recorded DVR content on any television in the home (up to three, we're told). According to AT&T, they're now offering the upgrade in several additional areas (Atlanta, Cleveland, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Reno and Sacramento). As we've said, the next major stepping stone for U-Verse is getting line-bonded VDSL working so they can offer faster speeds -- something the telco, despite analyst doubts, tells us is still on schedule for this year.

Pair bonding for distance not necessarily speed

See my post on this when it was raised previously:

WHDVR

I found the whole home DVR magically enabled a few days ago here in Sacramento - some other behaviors changed minorly as well... very cool feature I'd say

Expanding DVR but...

Still no Uverse Voice in the Los Angeles area.
I'd be tempted to try it (almost the same price as TWC), however, w/o VoIP service, its ~30/month more.

Re: RENO?!?

You *just* made my point!

not all reno

@charter.com
I would say not reno at all.. I believe Sparks NV has deployment and very little. It's only available to the new built homes that are in the rich neighborhoods.

I lived in both Reno and Sparks and it was not available where I lived.

I wish I could get U-Verse but at least it's somewhere around here. It keeps the prices in check.

I like my charter phone and 10 meg internet for a total bill of 30.00 a month!!

AT&T and U-Verse is Competitive Right Now!

AT&T has to roll out their U-Verse as soon as possible, because their Bandwidth is max'ed out right now. In a couple of years, if that long, AT&T will not be able to keep up with the high demand people will have for more Bandwidth. I keep saying that Verizon and FiOS with FTTH is way ahead of anyone else. If no other Telco or Cable Company can see this, they will Fail!

Comcast, Directv, Dish, Tivo, etc, Where you at?

Why can't other providers push this out? How hard could it be? A Tivo extender would be nice. I guess there's too much money on the hardware side to be made on rentals.
