Ultra-Wideband Gear in 2005? Wireless USB, UWB products on horizon Ultra-Wideband and wireless USB products should see store shelves in 2005, promotes the chairman of the wireless USB promoter group. Wireless USB can deliver 480Mbps of bandwidth over distances of ten meters, while ultra-wideband (UWB), a radio modulation technique, faces vastly broader application. UWB, while functional as a bluetooth type replacement, also has a number of more interesting applications such as increasing the bandwidth of traditional cable networks. Unfortunately the technology, which was at one point hindered by military GPS interference concerns, is now bogged down in a standards war.

If people didn't complain, need help, and knew everything about broadband there really wouldn't be a bbr.com. So why are you dissing a good thing, where people come together and sure information and help others? You're another one bashing a good thing.
Anyway I feel this technology is almost pointless because no one has that kind of speed. My current router can handle 100mbps, and even that's too high, hell, if it could only handle 50mbps it would be to high for me. All I got is 1.5mbps in my area.
But it is nice to see something new come out, now we just need the ultra-broadband to go with it. -- Maaaannn you wanna come in the garage and see my merchandise?

Instead of working together to develop something that will benefit everyone in the business....thay all fight each other to exclude others. The result is that no progress is made, and no one makes money instead, and the consumers get NOTHING in the way of new technologies. I love free enterprise, but at some point they should realize they could all get richer by working together. -- Deep thanks to those who defend America from those who would do us harm.

I'd like to x-fer files from networked pc's at 480mbps... providing that both hard drives, and processors/memory could keep up. -- Warm Regards, KI4GEQ StanaPhone Support

Because just like 802.11b, you're lucky to even get 40% of the touted bandwidth and that is under OPTIMUM CONDITIONS -- You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Bandwidth

BPremium,MVM join:2000-10-28 | Note To Self: Do NOT Ignore This Time!I spent a couple of years steadfastly ignoring and deriding USB as a standard, because I was short-sighted enough to say "all it does is replace RS-232 and Parallel ports and PS/2 ports, which WORK just fine, and there are still no interesting affordable USB peripherals".
And seemingly overnight every darned thing in creation is attaching to everything else via USB.
These products can be very big.
But not Bluetooth -- that still falls back in my ignore and deride category.

| | | ... Just having wireless USB capability would help me a LOT. It would truly free my laptop (I have a wireless mouse, but it requires a wired transmitter through USB, plus two hard drives).
Funny thing - I went to CompUSA last year and asked about a wireless USB hub. Guy looked at me like I was crazy. Said, "a wireless what? There's no such thing." I said, "there has to be. There's already an Ethernet one; you're telling me nobody's thought of this yet? Seems like a great idea to me." He's like, "It'll never happen."
