Or for profit, I am an EBay seller. Lat year Vernonia, had their annual community garage sale, the sale was a wash but I did some advance real-estate recon. Unfortunately Metro is doing their best to drive out the middle class with their urban growth planning. One thing I did was to strike up a conversation with the seller and as k what kind of cable and broadband was available. Most say they can get DSL (758K). PS DSL Reports, there nothing innovative about government supplied tax paid entitlements. Entitlements have a nasty effect to impeding innovation. No one is saying that 'universal' means 'taxpayer funded'; it means universally available to those that wish to purchase it, like telephone and electricity.
This is not just a campaign promise, it's the law. The 1996 Telecomm Act said that it is official U.S. policy to work toward making BB available to everyone. Not that is matters; it still won't happen anytime soon.
|
| | So let me ghet this straight It took a century to get everyone a telephone. Louisiana just wired up it's two final cities. To get electricity it took over half a century. But to get broadband everywhere we have to get it to every spot for only a few bucks a month in less than a decade.
You can get it fast... you can get it perfect... you can get it cheap. Just don't be surprised you can't get all three.

Lincoln998Premium join:2005-03-24 Pleasant Grove, UT | If we could just give Bush a third term... It might be worth noting that AT&T did promise to provide 100% broadband (but only 200 Kbps) coverage in their territory by the end of 2007 as a condition for their acquisition of BellSouth on 12/29/06. AT&T promised to provide at least 85% wireline coverage, and provide broadband to the remainder through wi-max or satellite.
So, the promise has been fulfilled to some extent in AT&T territory, but NOT in the rest of the nation, and certainly not in Qwest territory.
But at least our hard working President has saved us from the WMD in Iraq. I couldn't even sleep at night in 2002 due to my fear Saddam Hussein was going to blow me to smithereens at any moment. Too bad President Bush can't run for a third term -- if he could just get Iraq off his plate, he would solve all our problems...

This is so very american, for people to complain about internet access when hundreds of people die every day in war, and hundreds of thousands die everyday from famine and disease.
If I were the president, and we didn't goto war, the internets would still be the last thing on my mind. I'd rather put a trillion dollars twards aids and cancer research than one penny twards making americas internet better.

He's taken a page from the Democratic, feel good - mean nothing play book and delivered it with what I'm sure was a bunch of other political gobbledygook(Firefox knew how to spell that!).

I know people who do a show on a dialup connection because they can't get broadband. Heck Verizon hasn't upgraded their CO yet to even allow for broadband in Dendron, Virginia. I would love to move to the countryside and still be able to get 10/1 for $50 a month. Of course, it would be higher there since theres no DSL.
