New functionality allows recording from any box...

Users in our AT&T U-Verse forum are tracking AT&T's release of some free new functionality for the company's IPTV customers. "Phase 2" upgrades of the service now allows customers to record, delete or schedule recordings from any box in the house -- instead of just the primary DVR. In addition to the new recording functionality, AT&T appears to have fixed several persistent bugs (like dropped audio under some optical connections) and tweaked the service's GUI, with many users saying they the channel guide is more responsive. As part of this latest U-Verse upgrade, AT&T's also giving High Speed Internet Max customers a free 20% boost in downstream speed from 10Mbps to 12Mbps.

I got it last night

The new GUI looks good. The interface does not seem a whole lot faster.

Also the 20% bump in bandwidth was nice. Thumbs Up to AT&T

Re: I got it last night

It's my understanding that that it will now do 5.1 over HDMI. Still no update here in nortwest Ohio.

Got it last week.

The update made my wife happy. She hated the fact that she couldn't schedule/delete from the STB. Now I'm even happier that I left comcast.
In my experience, the guide is noticeably more responsive.
Also, i downloaded the uverse iphone app (released recently) that allows easier control of the dvr. Managing the dvr through the web interface proved to be somewhat tedious, Now it's a piece of cake. AT&T is making steps in the right direction. Good job.

Get it right, before you upgrade it.

I'd be happy if they'd just fix the component HD video output on their Cisco/Sci Atl boxes...

Re: Get it right, before you upgrade it.

Usually they fix stuff along with the updates (like the audio problems). It's a floor wax AND a dessert topping!

What issue are you having with component? The only one I'm aware of is the timing issue that causes flicker on certain RPTVs when there's lots of bright content. People with that issue have reported that the newer boxes with the larger HDDs fixed it.

Availability

Now I just need them to come to my area. Hell, I need them to come to my part of the street, since people 3 blocks from me have U-Verse and I don't. I'm sick of charter.

U-verse UPGRADE

AT&T doesn't seem to think U-verse is wanted in my neck of the woods much less an upgrade. I guess Comcast has the TV delivery locked in along with Direct-TV. THey can't even roll out decent DSL speeds much less U-Verse. Too much money to upgrade-repalce the infrastructure and they choose their rollouts to maximize bottom line. "maybe" someday (2-5 years from now) we'll have U-verse but I won't hold out for it!
Gawd I don't want to go back to Comcast!!

Re: Nothing in Northeast Ohio

Yeah, I got the "upgrade" in Chicago, but it's just eye candy FWIW. Where's my caller ID display and why can't I just filter my guide for sports/movies/ etc that's what I would consider a real "upgrade".

They only aim for so many a night.

Like say 25,000 a night or so. So if the RG's do have problems they can catch it before it gets too far.

Still no U-verse in the parkwood area of Madera

I sure wish I can get U-verse here in Madera and get rid of that crap they call Dish Network.

From my understanding the Media Share upgrade is a beta application and will only be a limited release for the moment.

2 HD and 2 Regular Streams

Now if they simply could allow users to record more then 2 HD streams at once.

Upgrade is great

Got my upgrade and the UI is WAY more responsive, and the admin of recorded shows/start a recording from any box is big for my family. I hated having to go to the DVR and do it.

I think they should have made it switch to the recorded version if you hit the record button so you could "pause live tv" automatically from any box. If I record something from a box then I have to go to the Recorded Shows menu and start it from there. All they would have had to do is switch to channel 9999 and start playing it immediately. Oh well, I've got a couple dozen other "must haves" for their future upgrades.

All in all this upgrade is solid and welcome!

U-Verse Upgrade

All of a sudden, my TV wouldn't zoom to full screen, then I discovered the new guide presentation and realized an upgrade had taken place. After fussing with the settings to correct the TV picture, everything was good.

The guide is more responsive and I like the newer presentation. I also noticed that it seems to have resolved my HDMI issue which has been a problem for some time. I don't have to flip thru the HDMI settings multiple times to get the TV synced with the Motorola box.
