SCHAUMBURG, Ill.24 January 2005 - San Antonio-based City Public Service (CPS) and Cinergy Corporation are both turning to Motorola technology to provide voice and data solutions that will enhance customer service, improve reliability, manage utility assets more efficiently, and reduce operating costs.
Motorola (NYSE:MOT) today announced that CPS, the nations largest municipally-owned energy company, has purchased Motorolas Harmony Wireless Communications System with installation projected to begin in March. The system will cover two CPS power plants and a coal yard, and include some 430 portable subscriber radios that will be used by CPS personnel.
Our ability to reliably communicate in the challenging power plant environment is critical, said Steve Mandry, director of Communication Services, CPS. Furthermore, we were looking for a private wireless solution that would provide us more effective control over our communications as well as the flexibility to add applications as our future needs develop. Harmony will make all of this possible.
