Verizon Adds 21,000 Square Miles of 3G to California Things speed up for SoCal as Verizon Wireless continues expansion Twenty one thousand square miles of Southern California just sped up a little bit with the widening of the Verizon Wireless 3G network to include that area. This reflects a big chunk of new investment in California by the company which hasnt been seen to this extent since 2000 when Verizon Wireless first started speeding things up in the state. Verizon has spent over $45 billion on broadband expansion in the last eight years in an attempt to lead the way with high-speed wireless access.

| | Cool... It basically looks like their entire network in California has now been upgraded to EV-DO, except for maybe a few spots here and there. I'm a Verizon wireless customer and I haven't found a place in So Cal yet that doesn't have EV-DO. | |

| | Wonder if the Cajon Pass is finally covered. used to be when i traveled from Victorville to San Bernardino, I'd have EVDO 80% of the time but it always switched to 1xrtt for about 5 miles up in the middle of the Cajon Pass. That would be nice if they flipped the switch on that section.
Though I'm now a sprint user so it won't do me much good.

All of San Luis Obispo county seems to have it, and I am getting about 1.3 mbps at peak download and test. Web surfing is a lot faster. I am really happy Verizon finally made the upgrade for this area.

·Verizon FiOS
| Wireless vs. FiOS Investment If they can spend 45 Billion to expand Wireless, the 29 Billion or so for FiOS does not seem that bad. It would be interesting to compare new wireless vs. new FiOS customers over a time period to see the average income per customer vs. the investment to get them. | |
