Verizon: All Future Phones Will Be LTE
VoLTE, Global LTE Roaming on Tap for This Year
Verizon this week stated that all future smartphone releases will have LTE support, something that's not surprising given their desire to ultimately refarm the spectrum currently being used for their EVDO network. Verizon, who now offers LTE in 200 markets, says they should have every current EVDO market upgraded to LTE by the end of 2013. A few improvements to look forward to will be Verizon's upgrade to VoLTE, which should provide much clearer voice and should pop up sometime this year. None of Verizon's current 4G LTE phones support global roaming, something Verizon says should also change this year.

Rezound a Global Phone

Although Not Advertised, maybe in the future it will, the Rezound does indeed support GSM networks.

Re: Rezound a Global Phone

I want the Rezound, and not really for the music - which is nicer but not enough to be a decision maker. My friend got the Rezound and says it is the best phone he has ever gotten. The rezound has also gotten some good reviews, including several of which suggest getting it over other options even if you don't care about the music.

I wouldn't write it off - especially if you do travel and it is GSM capable.

Galaxy Nexus needs to have Google Wallet, period. At least give users the choice between Google Wallet and Verizon bloatware.

I suppose I should have said "easily install and allow Google Wallet so that the average person can install it and use it."

LTE Map?

Does anyone have a map showing where LTE (4G) has been deployed?

another year

Maybe by the time my iphone contract is done with they will fully have lte in my area... Question will be then.. what will I get.. But if they snatch my unlimited, i'm going trac phone more than likely as all I'll be doing will be voice :-/ 2 gigs is just pathetic (yes, i know bout their double cap promotion, big whoop). It would be different if the 2 gigs was say 10 dollars.. But it is for the same price as unlimited was and with 10 dollars a gig over!

I hardly reach 2 gigs with my reception, it would probably go to three with lte or 4 gigs being I can actually stream video.. But again, 30 for 2 gigs? Not gonna happen.. Which means in a couple years ill be without a smart phone :-p

Its not all roses

I have the Thunderbolt which has multiple radios (and why Apple doesnt do LTE "4G" yet). Soon Broadcom integrated chipsets will do both. The problem w/ LTE is that it doesn't fail back to 3G properly (eHRPD/CDMA) AND MAY NEVER, and because I live in the tower on the fringe ever time I go out my data goes into never never land. So I am forced to put my phone into EVDO/A and turn off the 4G radio if I actually want stable connectivity. So until they update 4G EVERY current phone that VZW offers will have this problem, and I am not sure the new Broadcom ones will help because flipping between LTE/GSM and eHRPD just does not work properly. The PRL tries to keep me in 3G but if I get too deep into 4G it will flip and coming back is a nightmare. If it doesnt flip to 1x (RTT) then it just disconnects when the PPP connection is lost in eHRPD. Now if it goes into 1xRTT, it wont reconnect to 3G/4G unless you manually flip the radio. This is a pure nightmare.

VZW support told me ALL of their phones have this problem, so if you are on the fringe be aware of this limitation. They swap my phone and SIM (which they just probably do to wear you down), and problem still exists. I go into the corporate store and they take my phone and force it into 3G and tell me it will work now, which they are right, just not as the product is SOLD.

I am seriously considering Tmobile or ATT because they are already GSM and they both have HSPA+ 42/UTMS working in my area in the the NE where I travel. It is slightly slower than VZW LTE, however it is faster than the 1Mb I get when forced into EVDo/A. I have had war stories w/ AT&T so maybe TMO looks good until VZW upgrades their entire network and goes all IP.

So this is a cautionary tale to those considering a 4G beta phone. Test it out, you only have 2 weeks, but be warned you may have to live w/ 3G for another year or so.

I live in a fringe area too with the tbolt, occasionally popping up to 4G when I'm outside and I don't have any issues with 3G - 4G handoffs
When I got the tbolt back last march yes their were issues with the latest radios I have no issues.

Its just your phone or SIM. I travel in border LTE/CDMA area's, and it will hand off to the eHRPD packet core instantly and switch back and forth seamlessly.

Qualcomm makes the LTE chipset in the Thunderbolt, and its radio implementation is horrible. The T-Bolt has bad reception, I had that phone and had constant disconnects. You need to try a phone like the Rezound or Nexus.

Yes, the Rezound works great in mixed areas. Although, it is almost always getting 4G where I use it.

Finally switched over to the dark side? :P

The Rezound has the MDM9600 like the T-Bolt, but they have perfected the drivers for the mode, and its fantastic, along with the data speeds and call quality.

A big plus is also simultaneous voice and data over 3G!

Re: Its not all roses

Yes, I could not pass up the doubled data plan and my discount from my employer.

The combination of 35/35 FiOS to the Rezound's 20 mbps or faster 4G connection is a match made in heaven for my Slingbox. Now that I have 22GB of data available before hitting overages, I should be in good shape.

The phone is fast with a snappy interface, but it is the radio on this sucker that has me thrilled the most. In my basement I get 4G speeds of 8 mbps where I could never get a signal before with my Sprint service. It's just a wonderful phone. The screen is beautiful, too.

I do have the extended battery, and I keep it docked and charging most of the time, even in my car. That said, when initially conditioning the extended battery, it took a long time to drain. I just played Top Gear UK episodes over Netflix until the phone shut off, let it cool for about 15 minutes, charged it back up, and repeated again a couple more times.

Now, hopefully Verizon's LTE service will not go down for an extended period. I just missed the outages that Verizon recently had, and I am crossing my fingers that the problem has been resolved.

Just for kicks have you tried the Unlimited Data Hotspot loophole? I did it 5 days ago and it works, I had to call a few times, but it finally worked.

I wish you could keep the hotspot for $30 and get rid of the phone stuff. I bought my phone off-contract. I could use the hotspot for data and VOIP.
