Yes - I know this for a fact. No, I am not wrong. Yes there was an old plan that used to allow. O, you are lucky if you are on that but I have never met anyone on the 9.95 additional unlimited UMA plan.

Seriously though, with the questionable quality of a lot of open WAPs out there, I doubt that any serious telecom is willing to take that chance. Besides, femtocells are useful for any mobile phone, not just for the relatively small number of WiFi-equipped smartphones.

Especially if things like SMS at jsut about all other data can be had by a WiFi hotspot... Gee those portable WiFi hotspots could put the whole voice/txt/data business upside down. Personally, I wish UMA was available on PDA devices in general that supported WiFi - specifically for international roaming. For now, I'll use Skype over WiFi when I'm overseas / in Canada. -- Canada = Hollywood North

| | | we've been waiting for this to hit android forever, but there is both a software and hardware requirement to put UMA on android and little to no headway has been made in developing it | |

| | | Re: Sprint.. I called Sprint and talked to a customer service rep (mentioning that I wanted to improve my in-house 3G service with their femtocell). She did not know what I was talking about but after much description, she asked if I was talking about the Airave? She then gave me the number of the Airave department. When I called them, I was told that I would have to pay $99 for the 3G Airave and $4.95 per month for the service. So I deferred (since I can use wifi at home anyway). Wayne | |

| | I love the old Femtocell I just got the old Femtocell. Without it I have NO coverage within 3 miles of my house but with it I have five bars everywhere in my house and a useable signal up to about 100 feet from the box. I don't care about not having 3G on it at home because I use WIFI for that.
Yeah it uses your minutes like a regular cell call but everyone I call is on my circle which carried over from the Alltel days, so its great all around for me.

| | Lets see if they stop using minutes When I inquired about this in the store the guy told me I have to buy the device and it uses my minutes. He tried to cram the thing down my throat and finally I asked him if I should just deduct the $45 dollars I pay each month for my internet from their bill or do I send them a seperate invoice. He shut his mouth very quickly after that. -- Certs: CCNA, GPEN, GCIH, GCFW, GSEC, GCIA, GCFA | |
