There's some FIOS in Tampa, FL and I used it about 3 years ago, seemed like the same Motorola gear Comcast is using.

Re: It's About FREAKING Time....said by SinFIOS :Dude. You have FioS! Stop whining! Why in the hell would you want to be a Verizon Fios customer??? False promises, repeated false promises, and their outright blatant lies. Complete service disruptions that last over a month. Ping latency measured in Minutes, not Milliseconds. Sucky DNS servers. They like to release buggy software on their customers, then deny that it's their problem. Constantly inaccurate billing. Literally, days of on-hold time to correct simple issues. They have completely destroyed my credit rating for non-payment issues, but I have never missed a single payment, nor made a singe late payment in the past 20 years(Going back to the Bell Atlantic days). They billed me more than $1500 for cable boxes not returned when I supposedly canceled their service, but I have never canceled their service. Verizon FiOS SUCKS!!!!! I don't have any other options available, or I would drop them in a second. Just keep dreaming Keep wishing, but you really don't want it. Verizon fios is a complete DISASTER.

Re: It's About FREAKING Time....I completely doubt you on those accounts. When I had it I had great DNS, incredible ping ( it really showed on games ) and reliable internet connection in my experience. I no longer have fios because the street I live on now doesn't have it.
The billing issue from what I've read is something that still doesn't happen to the majority and very small amount of people, I never hear about it from any of my friends that have FiOS ever and some of them had it since 2005! in MA atleast the installer I had was friendly and had no issue connecting, my neighbor it wasn't the same story but they fixed the problem with the time out issue he was having connecting to their DNS servers.
you act like its the end of the world with them.. also I severely doubt it's your only option, if you can get FiOS.. GOOD CHANCES ARE YOU CAN GET CABLE TOO BUD!
Oh and if you really think there dns servers suck try OpenDNS for kicks.
Take your soap box somewhere else..

Yup, they suck on many counts. But latency issues? Wow. Mine has rarely been above 7ms and that's passing through two routers my end. And the service has never been down, not once, in the years I've had it.

LMFAO, funny how Ive had the service for 2 years and cant relate to a single issue you claim.

Worried about you job at Comcast are you?
I had the misfortune of being a captive customer of Comcast and TimeWarner in the past and switched to FIOS the moment it became available in my area.
To say that the FIOS is head and shoulders above, light years beyond etc etc any of the unpleasant experiences I had with cable would be a monumental understatement.
Truth is I'm struggling to find the words in English, and they may not exist at all, to adequately express how much better FIOS is than the crap cable pawns off on its unsuspecting customers.
Technology, performance, cost/value, problem resolution, everything I can name with one exception.. cable is not even in the same ballpark, city, county or state. The one issue I've had with Verizon in their hellish voice-mail gauntlet that must be navigated to get to a real person... and it's still not worse than the experiences with Comcrap.

FIOS updateMine updated a couple days ago, I noticed one of my SD STB's was flashing an err msg and counting down. So i called it in and they sad it was part of the update. So it looks like they roll out the software to one of the STB's thats not used much then it updates the rest of the house from there. The interface is nice and smoother than the old one. I've got a Tivo HD XL and they have finally getting close to that.

I'm NewTalk about luck - I just had my 35/35 triple installed last week and I got the 1.9 and a 7232. I can't speak to how the service used to be but for my end in the little time I've had it Verizon has more than lived up to it's promises. I play WoW on a west coast server and my lats have come way down compared to Time Warner' Road Runner which I had for about 8 years. I can run a constant 46 Mb download stream day or night and up at 33. Like I said I can't compare what FiOS TV used to be because I already have 1.9 but this service is excellent. I've had the menu lock up a couple of times when I tried to do too many things at once but I think that was more user error than the equipment. The menu choices are great and I like how you can chose from what type of menu you want (HD, Full, Mini, etc). The DVR is spot on BUT the one bitch I have is it records commercials along with the program. Yes, I can FF through them (and it works really well BTW) I wish Verizon would skip them. The FiOS HD picture quality is jaw dropping compared to TW's.
I hope you all get the new 1.9 soon because from what I've been reading it's a very cool upgrade. I know from Time Warner to Verizon I tripled my service and pay $20 less per month. You can't beat that.

Re: I'm NewI thought there was a discussion in one of the forums about this and someone claimed that not all DVR's record commercials. I don't recall which ones and maybe he was talking out of turn. If they all do it then I stand corrected. I didn't bother with DVR when I was with Time Warner.

Re: I'm NewRemember when Tivo first came out back in '99 and it had the capability of skipping commercials? That was quickly halted because advertisers screamed bloody murder. Ever since, DVR's record commercials and the only recourse is that 30 second skip button!

I got it and it's mostly cool but unless I'm missing something there still one terribly important thing I miss that I had with DishNetwork....
The ability to set my favorites list as the default channel list so I don't have to see the channels I don't have or want my kids know are there.

free dvr is a scamverizon just jacked up the bundle price to $99.xx so that they could include a "FREE" dvr rental.. (before taxes & fees). even if I could get a free dvr at the lower bundle price, I wouldn't want the damned thing! first of all it's a power hungry, POS, next it's bad enough verizon can track what you watch and for how long.. I'll keep my disposable trackable time limited.
if verizon keeps following the bad behavior of at&t they're putting at risk the 25% marketshare they've wheedled away from the cable industry. afterall, they've spent billions on a fiber optic network, plus are in hock to vodafone on the wireless network and want to begin treating wireless customers like ghetto clowns, good luck with that policy.
