Verizon has indicated its intent to offer Wi-Fi calling sometime in the near future. The company has filed a request with the FCC for a waiver temporarily exempting the company from having to adhere to so-called text telephony "TTY" rules for the hearing impaired. AT&T received a similar waiver earlier this month, complaining that both Sprint and T-Mobile technically launched their own Wi-Fi calling services without adhering to TTY-related regulations. TTY is a 1960s technology that has yet to be adopted to the modern IP era; the waivers give the companies time to develop alternative technology while still offering Wi-Fi calling.
