That will solve the voice OR data issue on Verizon iPhone4VoLTE will solve that complaint levied against the iPhone4 on Verizon - that you can't use voice & data simultaneously.

Not that a lot of people care about that anyway.

Doesn't make sense since the VZW iPhone doesn't have LTE. Even so, VZW LTE phones will have CDMA for many more years so will be able to do voice/data simultaneously anyway since there are two radios (as Sprint does today with 4G phones).

Re: verizonsaid by josh7234:with a 4g phone you can do data and voice anyways as it is like on the new thunderbolt or the bionic correct this is already fixed for the upcoming VZW LTE phones, including the HTC Thunderbolt which is released in 2 weeks. The Thunderbolt also shows a wrong statement in the Article: quote: with LTE-supported smartphones not expected until the middle of this year.
4G LTE phones will be reased starting this month and there will probably be a new LTE phone every month until the summer when there may be multiple per month. not sure where he got this idea...the 1st Tegra 2 phone wont be here until summer, maybe he got them confused.

Re: verizonYes but this is the first one that has the announced feature of LTE voice calls - supposedly "high-definition" audio. The other LTE phones will use the CDMA network for voice calls.

VoLTE???The real question is, does the average consumer really care what cryptic acronym is given to the phone call portion of their cell phone? Just call it "Voice".
I guess they need to jump on some kind of bandwagon, so they will probably end up calling it HD Cellular, or maybe call it 1080p or something else unrelated just so people will perceive the phone calls on the 4G network as somehow "better".
I've never met anyone who didn't frequent technology forums who really cared nor understood what underlying interface is carrying their telephone conversations.

reI for one do not care what they decide to call it. What I do care about is the bolster the coverage area for 4G. As it stands a limited number of markets currently have 4G coverage.

It will never happen...High definition audio over a cell network will last as long as piano bars and reasonable legroom on airplanes lasted. The beancounters will never allow it.

Re: It will never happen...yeap. simple as this if your lazy and dont want to put music on your device. you notice how the ads for this from verzion are not correct

Actually some networks allow it (the various UMTS standards support this), and others charge a small premium for it. Take a look at Orange UK for an example of where they now let you use the AMR-WB codec

LG's Revolution 4G the first ?What about the HTC Thunderbolt and Droid Bionic? Are they not going to be released before the Revolution? They are 4G phones. If the LG's revolution would be the first to support VoLTE, are these other phones not able to take full advantage of the new 4G network?

Re: LG's Revolution 4G the first ?The Thunderbolt and Bionic may not support VoLTE. From:» venturebeat.com/2011/02/ ··· n-volte/ Its still unclear if every Verizon 4G phone will come equipped with VoLTE. During CES, the company vaguely said that only some 4G phones would support simultaneous voice and data service, the key selling point of VoLTE. Its possible then that some 4G phones will be limited to using only Verizons 3G network for calls.

How much suckage?I wonder if voice over LTE will suck just like voice over 3G on ATT seems to suck right now. Question - can the phone and 4G/3G prioritize voice traffic and burst data in between?
If I was smart though I'd hack my phone to make every traffic look like voice so I got prioritized over everyone else. Can anyone say "Frame Relay"
(those of you over 30 will understand what I mean)
