Verizon Offering FiOS Makeovers
Home networking upgrades for new TV show (advertisement)
Verizon says they're working on a new television show for FiOSTV dubbed "My Home 2.0," which will outfit five Pennsylvania families with the latest and greatest home networking gear, as well as FTTH connections. Users in PA can submit casting videos here (URL won't work until September 15).
quote:
The TV series' first episode will begin filming on Sept. 12 at a family's home in the Bucks County community of Yardley and wrap up with a communitywide block party on Sept. 15 as the family's home-technology makeover is unveiled.
We've heard Verizon block parties are pretty hard core. Verizon says FiOS TV is currently available to 260,000 households in 86 communities in southeastern Pennsylvania in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties.

Sounds good

Cool, they should do something like this on my street, I live on a dead end street 6 houses on each side, in this subdivision, everyone on this street mostly has fios.
Or at least me and three other houses at the end all have fios.

VZ steals billions in tax breaks from PA but gives this...

Did Verizon plan this to happen in Pennsylvania? I mean, if you have the balls to promise 45Mbps symmetrical speeds to 50% of Pennsylvania by 2002, TAKE/STEAL the 2.1 billion dollars for doing so, and then NOT meet the requirements, that's theft right? fraud?

it's a sick joke by Verizon! oh hahaha.

Can you prove that Verizon couldn't provide 45Mbs symmetrical in 2002. Our brilliant PA politicos never insisted it be done at a consumer or even a reasonable price.

it's a mistake to blame it on the politicians. Verizon made the promise, received the 2billion for doing so, then did not deliver the speeds to 50% of the population (by 2002) and at consumer prices. clearly, Verizon violated both the spirit and the letter of the tax credit agreement with PA.

If you don't like VZ, then don't get any of their services and make a statement that way

Just about everything that's wrong here in Pennsylvania can be traced back to that gaggle of certified self important assholes in Harrisburg.

Mind you, I'm not giving Verizon a free pass here. I'm more interested in bashing the self serving jerk offs we have running this state.

Voting themselves gigantic pay raises in the dark of night, crawling into bed with the modern day corrupt aristocracy we pass of as a judicial system (nothing but a "lawyers only" club) in order to do it.

And fast Eddie Rendell on board with the whole thing. They pass the casinos under the guise of lowering property taxes, and the same old fat cats get richer and richer.

Ugh, I hate this goddamn state, and I can't wait to leave. I can't believe I stayed this long. Now with the real estate market so soft, I'm stuck here for a while.

Should have moved a year ago when I thought of it. Every thing's gotten too over grown around here anyway. Too many people.

Nope, back out into the sticks as far as I can go and still get a HS internet connection.

Sorry....

Wish they were offering this in South Jersey too

I'd love to have all this free gear and a faster connection thrown in to boot. But maybe my sister in Yardley can get in on the deal, since it looks like that area is being targeted for this offer.

I did come across this one S.E. PA family going to apply for the "My Home 2.0" program though. But Verizon may have to supply electricity as well as the gear.

Heh! They need a cell tower on that silo too!

No, that is in PA dutch country. Yardley is part of Bucks county...and we are not just talking about the buck (deer) here.

Looks like the area around Strasburg, PA not far from the Strasburg Railroad(where I worked part time for fun). But I guess you are referring to the Amish schoolhouse killings in the same area.

Dates are confusing

So you can submit casting videos on Sept. 15, but they start filming on the 12th? What?

They're confusing if you don't read the press release that was linked to in the first post. They start filming on the 12th for the family that was already picked (in Yardley, Bucks County.)

According to the press release, quote:
The "My Home 2.0" team will select two more southeastern Pennsylvania families through casting calls at various events in coming weeks. Potential makeover candidates can get more information or submit their own casting video at www.2pointhome.com after Sept. 15.

Mt. Lebanon is being used for the Western PA makeover...

It looks as if at least one of the "two families from the Pittsburgh area" will be from Mt. Lebanon.

According to Verizon's press release:
Later this fall, two families in the Pittsburgh area will receive technology makeovers that will be made into additional episodes for the "My Home 2.0" TV series.

Verizon had a booth setup on Friday night at a community gathering in Mt. Lebanon and they were taking applications for the makeover. Someone I know already filled an application out and already got a call from the production people. They were being interviewed for the makeover Saturday evening at their home.

It makes sense that it would be in Mt. Lebabon since the commissioners already voted yes for VZ to offer FiOS TV...
