Verizon Offers 'Free' DVR Promotion
HD expansion continues, installs moving along in NYC
by Karl Bode 09:38AM Tuesday Aug 12 2008
Verizon this week unveiled a new promotion offering users who sign up for FiOS TV by October fourth a year's free use of either an HD-DVR, or an HD Home Media DVR. The Home Media DVR allows up to six televisions to watch the same recorded DVR programming. According to the telco, the promotion could save users between $200-$260 on their first year of service. As related asides, users in our FiOS forum give their impressions on fresh NYC FiOS installs, and the telco added 18 HD channels to their FiOSTV lineup in Pittsburgh.

Free DVR

I think this is a good idea. Nothing speaks to me like good competition in the market. If there were no Cable companies, this would not be happening and the same goes for FiOS.

I have had their HD DVR for over a year now and I could not imagine ever going back to video tape ever....

Cant network with other HD receivers

Thats the problem with this crap networked DVR. You can stream to other STBs but only if they are SD. I only have HD in my house. The fine print tells you your cant stream to a HD box but its advertized as networkable in alot larger print. The funny thing is that the Network DVR is HD. Why would someone who wants that, only have SD on their other sets?

The HD streaming issue is scheduled to change in September.

It can't stream ANY content to HD boxes or it can only steam SD content to HD boxes?

The commercial with the basketball guy shows EVERY room that it can feed has an HDTV in it.

I imagine that will be soon.

Yes- I'm sure the managers at Verizon were not happy about that ad, since it blatantly misrepresents the capabilities of their product...

Currently, only SD content stored on the DVR can be streamed only to an SD box.
