For real football fanatics, this will be a nice deal. They get to pick and watch up to 4 camera angles at once while showing the stats as well.
But even if you don't have that Verizon option, you can still watch the game on regular TV and go to »www.nfl.com/gameday and »www.nfl.com/gamecenter to get all the running stats on your PC while watching the game. And this feature is available to any game you can get on your TV - not just the NFL Network games.

| | | | | Re: When Does It Start? Will Tonights Game be Available? Well, whether you buy into it or not, where do you think all of those *billions* of dollars come from to pay those outrageous pro athlete salaries? The owners & leagues charge billions for TV rights -> the manufacturers & advertisers & whoever else pay for placing their ads on CBS/NBC/ABC/TNT/et al -> and we, the consumer, whether we pay for channels or not, whether we watch the games or not, we're paying 2, 3, and more times as much as some product would otherwise cost for almost *everything* that we buy so that every manufacturer of any product can recover their costs for advertising. There isn't one pro athlete alive, now or ever, who's worth those million dollar "salaries". If they had to earn their money solely from the revenues of only those willing to pay to watch them play, then they wouldn't even "earn" 6 figures. We're all subsidizing them anyway, so grin and bear it. | |

Charter just annouced prices hikes because they added ESPNU and NHL Network( their own words ) even though these are only avilable to those on the Sports Tier. So how does that mesh with your "Only offer it on the sports tier so non-sports fans don't get charged" theory?

Both sides of this little spat are doing it. I am not sure how the NFL can claim cable is blocking them when the NFL doesn't allow the full NFL package to be set up on cable like they have with DirecTV. Cable is mad at the NFL for not setting it up with them so they refuse to carry the NFL channel at the very high rates the channel costs.
I know when I got my current digital channel package the NFL channel was on it but at some point before this season started they took it off and moved it to a premium channel. While I may like to see the games I do not want to pay more than I already am for a couple games a year.

That, and these business are so controlling on where there stuff gets posted, how, when, etc...it's a fricken' sport for peats sake, have fun with it .
I heard something earlier that one of the Yankees was renegotiating his contract for $48 million, or some ridiculous price like that.. With all these endorsement deals, there should be a salary cap on players. No more than $3 million a year....more than enough for anyone too live off of.
It'd be interesting too see how much the price would drop on these channels if that where the case..
I do, however, remember watching a lower ranked football game (I think it was called XFL) that was rather fun too watch on NBC. Moved a bit quicker, too..

I do, however, remember watching a lower ranked football game (I think it was called XFL) that was rather fun too watch on NBC. Moved a bit quicker, too.. That's what this country needs to make things right. A society with communist and socialist roots. When people say things like "athletes shouldn't make so much", I believe they make those statements out of envy and jealousy. Those folks either have a lot of money or have no shot of EARNING really good money in their life. If athletes had their salary cut, do you think costs would go down? If you do you are naive. It'll just transfer from the millionaire players to the billionaire owners.
The players deserve the money because they are the ones putting on the show. Should actors get paid less because you feel they make too much? No one complains about their pay. The truth is a FEW athletes make tens of millions or have endorsement contracts. Most athletes have 1-3 careers and get real jobs after pro sports, so they should take as much as they can get. If you had any athletic ability, you would too.
Goods and services are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them.

Please. "forced" haha. Yes forced. Perhaps you missed the part where the NFL is trying to get the politicians to force Comcast to carry the NFL Network on basic tiers. Perhaps you missed the part where ALL these same companies are perfectly willing to let MLB "force" them to carry MLB Channel on basic tiers so they can still offer Extra Innings. Now if it's wrong for non-sports fans to subsidiize football how is some ok to subsidize baseball? Until these companies can explain their hypocrisy they can get of their righteous high horse.
As I said if the NFL came out TODAY and said "Ok carry us on basic tier and you can offer Sunday Ticket" these same companies would say OK and have ZERO issue with having the non-sports fan subsidize NFL Network. Anyone that believes otherwise is an idiot.
The fact is these companies are mad that the NFL extended thier deal with DirectTV 2 years ago until 2011. This is their way of paying the NFL back. The whole "It's not fair to make non-fans pay 70 cents a month" line is BS. These companies want Sunday Ticket. They know that this is a way to make sure the NFL doesn't negotiate another exclusive deal with DirectTV again. It's a game of chicken. The cable companies are betting that there won't be a big enough outcry from NFL fans before 2011 to force them into accpeting a deal before the NFL says they can have Sunday Ticket. The NFL is betting there will be. Who blinks first?
Fact is if the NFL came back and said "Ok you can NFL Network on a sports tier" those caable companies would be f*cked. Their bluff would have been called. They couldn't refuse on the basis of "Only sports fan should pay" because they would be. Especially when they said they would add it if they could put it on a sports tier. But if they do that they have almost ZERO negotiating power when it comes to getting Sunday Ticket at that point.

| Caught in the middle This is about greed, and I can see the greed of the NFL eventually knocking it from USA's most popular sport. I'm deluged with commercials but that is not enough revenue stream for them. I'm with Comcrap, but I side with them on this issue.
As a corollary aside, there is another similar issue/battle being waged (at least in Maryland) between ESPN and Comcast over University of Maryland football games. They are not carrying ESPN360 which has gotten control of the telecast rights. So as a tax paying citizen of Maryland, I can't watch my State University's game. NFL is a little different, they are a corporation product and can freely try to squeeze every penny they can get their hands on, until we fans finally say ENOUGH! and have a super bowl TV boycott launched. Then they can gleefully hold their extra revenue as they watch a billion dollar hemmorage happen. -- To be on a pedestal is to be in a corner

Otherwise, we have to wait for the tape-delay rebroadcasts on the RSN (CSN-MA). ESPN360 is a PPV service on Comcast (and is carried as part of their VOD/PPV offerings, along with ESPN GamePlan); I know of no cable company (including FIOS TV) that carries it in their basic tier. And ESPN360's deal is with the ACC, not just UM. (Both the Cavaliers of UVA and Hokie Nation in Blacksburg got clobbered by this deal, too.)
