Verizon Prepaid Users Get Access to LTE Thursday
by Karl Bode 06:22PM Tuesday Jul 15 2014
Confirming earlier leaks, Verizon has announced that they will soon be offering prepaid users access to the LTE network. Previously, prepaid users were allowed allowed on Verizon's EVDO/3G/CDMA network to reduce strain on the LTE network. Starting Thursday however, Verizon states the company's AllSet prepaid plans will utilize the LTE network starting Thursday, July 17.

The specific plan details from big red:
quote:
With tons of flexibility and no annual contracts, ALLSET users get unlimited talk, text and 500 MB of data for $45 a month. And for a limited time, customers can double their data to 1 GB by signing-up for Auto Pay. Add another 500 MB for just $5.

And with BRIDGE DATA, customers can customize their usage allowances by adding data to their account whenever they want. Any unused data from the current monthly cycle will move to the next, so customers pay for what they need without extra fees or overcharge charges.

BRIDGE DATA options include:

1 GB for $10 with 90-day expiration
3 GB for $20 with 90-day expiration
You can also check out Verizon's prepaid plans and service FAQ for more details.

Re: Ridiculous?

Nope it's not. It's you. If one is the kind of person with access to cricket some other pre-paid company them maybe. For many whose only option for pre-paid has been limited to crappy 3G service and devices this is pretty good. Also those that do not use much data( and surprise many people have discovered this new thing called wi-fi ) this is also a good deal.

It is just you.

$45 for 1GB LTE with unlimited talk/text, prepaid, for the so-coveted Verizon brand, is fantastic.

Personally, I have yet to see evidence of the reputed coverage, quality and performance, but if you believe in Brand VZW, that's an awesome deal, compared to the typical $120/month one pays on the two-year contract.

Re: Ridiculous?

It not out of bounds, and for $50 you get 1.5GB. If they expire the promo for $45/500MB then I would say that is a rip, because you can get that for $27 on H20 (AT&T) for the same data, and no it's not LTE, but H+ which smokes Verizon 3G.

The problem w/ a lot of the AT&T MVNO is that they play throttling games, or you have to call to get full speed, or unlock, etc...So YYMV.

Verizon is about 10-20% more than AT&T which I only consider if you need wide coverage. TMO and Sprint are 2nd tier carriers and should cost less because there coverage is significantly poorer. If you don't travel and they are covered in your hood, then you are fine.

We shall see how the roll out to MVNO and see what the big red tax on LTE shall be.

This is only $5 more than Page Plus's Unlimited Talk N' Text plan that has the same minutes/text/data, so only a $5 LTE tax and the ability to use a Verizon LTE phone without flashing. Not too horrible, unless you're lucky enough to have a usable AT&T signal everywhere you need to use your phone.

That's a great price; I pay $50 a month for 5 gig no carry over $10 for each gig over 5. No talk or text, it a 4G modem.

it's you. I switched two people from post-paid to pre-paid and we are now saving $35 a month.

Let's compare networks too. Oh wait no contest.

230 million have access to T-Mobile or soon, T-Mobile says. Sounds impressive but 305 have access to Verizon. So my math says that 1 out of every 4 people that has access to Verizon does not have access to T-Mobile. So maybe people should quite telling others to "just switch" since there is fair chance they can't.

I'd really hate to have to drive 40 miles just to have to use T-Mobile. The gas alone would be more than $30 a month.

Frequenter od Chicago and Milwaukee here, never had any issue with smog.

Now out "in the clean air country" I have to deal with the stench of paper mills and factory farms cesspools of shit and piss stench or GMO croppers laying down huge clouds of pesticides on their "corn".

Clean air in the country my ass...

Not Bad

I would consider it if it had a bit more data. Right now I have StraitTalk on ATT. For $45/month I get 3GB. Everything I read claims Verizon has the best coverage. That's worth something but I don't leave a major metro area that often and it isn't worth losing 2.5GB of data per month. I generally don't use more than 1GB but that sounds like a problem if I were to switch to this plan. Perhaps if they offered 1GB for $45 it might work for me. 500MB is a bit stingy.

If you set up auto-pay you get 1 GB for $45. Also if you read you can add data. Up to an extra 6 GB a month. Also ST that uses Verizon's network is 3G only. And you can only use 3G phones. And in either case you can tether( legally ) on ST. If that is important.

I might also add many people don't use much data since they have access to wi-fi. I think I've used 50 MB this month and I have 11 days left.

Let's hope not. Want to use Verizon's network then get on Verizon's. Last thing I want is non Verizon customers screwing up my connection.

based on Verizon's prior shrewd business moves, I am guessing they want to capture all of that revenue/profit themselves.

The percentage of people coming close to that 3GB amount on 3G is probably less than 30%.

Should be interesting to see how this works out. 'round here LTE is so oversold that, unless it's the middle of the night, EVDO is usually faster.

I don't even care about LTE or unlimited minutes

I just want the ability to just simply pop a prepaid SIM into a Verizon LTE phone at 3G speeds and just get on the Verizon network without having to mess with flashing. Too bad there aren't any $20 or less few hundred minute plans available... if there were, I'd be all over this! I'm getting tired of being stuck with 3+ year old jalopies... unless I want to mess with flashing.

Yeah, there are AT&T MVNO's that I could use a newer phone on, but I don't get a good AT&T signal at work and none of the AT&T MVNO's have the low minute monthly plans like Page Plus's The 12 and the $20 and under BYO Wireless plans. I don't even care about LTE... I just simply want to use a post-2011 phone! (One exception: I could get a iPhone 4S and put that on Page Plus... I'm considering that...)

Re: I don't even care about LTE or unlimited minutes

That would be a very nice touch.

Getting my S3 on PP was a nightmare. Having 4g sims work would be EPIC.
