23 new channels arrive in the Fort Wayne, Indiana market
(old news - 08:16AM Tuesday Jul 01 2008)
tags: Fiber · business · alternatives · telco · HDTV · Verizon FIOS
In June, Verizon issued a press release stating they'd be adding "more than" 25HD channels this summer, and should have more than 150HD channels by the end of the year. According to the company, the deployment was set to begin in July on a market-by-market basis. Fort Wayne, Indiana users in our FiOS TV forum note that the channels have arrived in their region (here's a pdf channel lineup for those interested).

Does it matter if your area is bpon or gpon?

Re: rollout

Don't think so. It was about the elimination of analog and conversion to all digital that was the prerequisite as I understand.

BPon and GPon is about more channels/faster internet, though don't quote me on that one.

You got it right. This has nothing to do with GPON. Verizon is eliminating analogs, and expanding out their QAM service (to a full 870MHz) on a market-by-market basis. As those changes roll into these markets, Verizon is adding channels.

Re: rollout

OK, I don't understand the tech talk, but does this mean we will now get more channels in the clear QAM?

don't expect any more channels in the clear (aside from locals and music channels). they will all be encrypted and require a set top or cable card to decode.
