Verizon To Highlight LTE Device Specs Reaches out to developers... Verizon is getting prepared to deploy faster LTE wireless broadband service to "25-30" markets in 2010, with most of its network upgraded by 2014. According to Verizon, the service will initially launch with speeds between 5 Mbps and 13 Mbps downstream, and between 2 Mbps and 5 Mbps upstream. No word on pricing or caps yet, but the carrier is beginning to discuss some device specifications, and will hold a conference call on January 20 to chat up their LTE plans in more detail as they reach out to developers. Early LTE gear will be entirely about data -- voice LTE and LTE-enabled smartphones won't be appearing until 2011. Verizon executives have stated they hope to offer LTE through "roughly" 100 million points of presence (POPs).

| | | lte is nothing but a bunch of lies they've promised to commercially launch 2 markets? where are they???? where is their pricing? it's almost the end of the year? nothing....i foresee absolutely no progress until 2012 | |

Yeah, along the same lines, maybe they should release the zip codes impacted, the Chairman's SSN, etc etc. I'm sure the specifics you're referring to would be of no interest to competitors.
LTE will happen, and will happen big. Remember that VZW didn't spend $Billions on spectrum rights for nothing. They NEED LTE to be huge to make it pay back. And who knows if LTE speeds and wide adoption could make Apple salivate enough to launch a LTE version of the iPhone that they could offer to VZW as well. | |

 | | Speed is great and all... but does it really matter when they will more than likely cap it at some ridiculously low usage number ? I'd rather have lower speed with higher caps, if there has to be caps. | |
| | | Since LTE is backwards compatable.. with the current networks in use in the US (except for maybe Tmobile since they use an odd freq band), if verizon going to leave that compatibility in, or gimp it like everything else they touch so that only verizon phones will work on it... | |
| | | | Re: Since LTE is backwards compatable.. Actually, LTE isn't backward compatible with anything, though you can apparently crossgradesome WiMAX equipment to LTE via a software update. | |

| range So, what's the actual range from tower for the lte signals? Will it actually be an improvement over evdo? I could careless about theory.. I would like some actual data from the field! I"m very interested about this and curious if they plan to panic like they did with evdo and cap it at a pathetic 5 gigs once people are on board... | |
