| AT&T didn't do well because... They have a botched 3G network in many places. Eg. Southern California, they have deployed 1/4 of their spectrum for 3G services on 1900MHz (while 850MHz would do a better coverage job). This resulted in many seeing low signal (3G iPhone) and many dropped calls on 3G devices (how much voice + data can you push over a single 5MHz carrier in an area like Los Angeles?).
They've finally started deploying a 2nd 3G carrier on 850 MHz around here, and guess what... my 3G dropped calls have effectively stopped, and the browser now works.
AT&T CS Reps blame the phone or SIM card on every issue (they aren't technical... just first line of defense) I did warranty exchange 3x with no fix.

Well why should that be a surprise? I was a customer when Cingular (now AT&T) rolled out the 850 band in LA and it was an utter disaster. Constant dropped calls, calls that were misrouted and calls that went silent on one end. Th Long Beach area was so bad I was able to terminate my contract early and go to the carrier ranked number two in this survey, T-Mobile. I love them, the service is excellent. Why Apple didn't choose them for the iPhone is beyond me

| Not the Best, But the Least Worst Verizon Wireless is not the best but the least worst of the cell phone providers in the US. I know people who have corporate at&t cell phones that have bought Verizon cell phones so that they can communicate when they are out in the real world, in this case northern Kentucky.
I have lent my Verizon cell phones over the years to various people whose phones did not work in some specific area of the country. I will say the next "least worst" is T-Mobile based on my observations.
These are my opinions, you are entitled to yours.

I recently tried out service with Sprint. I paid over a hundred for the phone. I cancelled service and returned the phone. Its been more than a week since they got the phone back. Sprint still hasn't given me my money back for the phone. Sprint knows they have the phone back and that I didn't even use any minutes on the phone. Sprint is refusing to return my money until they send me out a "final" bill and then I have to call back in to request the money back. Once I request it they have to send the request to another department who reviews it for up to 48 hours before making a decision. If they grant it then they issue a check. Then it takes another few days before they mail it and then up to two weeks for me to get the check.
In all of this Sprint Customer Service stinks as my experience proves.

As several others have pointed out, Verizon disables just about everything on their handsets. No bluetooth transfers. You get to pay for everything, nickel and dimed to death. | Sprint Responds I am in Sprint's communications group, and here are my thoughts. Yes, we are in last place, but our extensive efforts in 2008 to offer the best customer service have resulted in improvement in almost every market in the Consumer Reports survey, and all results were above the 60 threshold which indicates that respondents are "fairly well satisfied" with service and connectivity. That's not the best, but our improvements are paying off and third parties are regularly citing that. J.D. Power has indicated we have improved in much of the country, and Pali Research recently reported we went from last to first in their survey of customer service. Our internal measures show dramatic improvement in customer service, and it just takes time for that to be fully reflected in customer responses. But we are getting there. And as for the snarky remark about our being last to offer prorated ETFs so customers won't "flee," we were delayed only because the massive integration of computer systems following our merger prevented us from doing it sooner. Regarding the CR study, yes, we weren't at the top, but don't for a minute think we aren't working as hard as possible every day to get there.

1) I called Sprint days ago and although Sprint sent me a return label by email Sprint didn't have the tracking # in there systems.
2) Sprint CS has always treated me rudely and as an idiot.
3) Verizon CS has never given me any crap. PERIOD.

PS. I have had them all , this year tmobile jack up their rates for little service they provide. Att pricey like verizon. ATT getting little bad with customer service recently from my experince. Then you have verizon, locked down , high price for less. lol , I figure most of the time I can get sprint to do what I want. Just going to get the plan and everything I want so I never have to really call. Honestly most people dont really ever have to call their cell phone company til they want a new phone. | AT&T and VZW I guess what carrier you prefer is ultimately a personal choice. I've had both AT&T and VZW, and I like AT&T much better. Around here, their coverage is rock solid, probably because BellSouth did a good job building out the network in the '8s and '90s. VZW is also pretty good (I have them for my work phone), but their coverage isn't as robust as AT&T's and certainly not as good as they'd have you believe. I also like the fact that AT&T doesn't lock down their phones like VZW does. Granted, there are ways to hack them and get around those restrictions, but I shouldn't have to hack my phone just to transfer a file to it. I paid for the damn thing. It's mine, so I see no reason I must pay VZW to simply add a ringtone to it. And if I don't like AT&T's phone selection, I can go out andbuy an unlocked handset, pop my SIM in, and use it. No need to beg them for permission.
I'm not saying AT&T is perfect, but I think lots of people have drunk the VZW Kool-Aid that their network is somehow better than everyone else's. Truth be told, Southern LINC probably has the best network around here, but I don't need their PTT service, and I hate iDEN devices, so I find AT&T to be the best carrier for me right now.

| Re: AT&T and VZW I travel the U.S. from coast-to-coast throughout every week of the year and I too have both an AT&T and Verizon phone. The only reason I have two is because where I live on the Panhandle of Florida, Verizon service is pretty weak, especially along the I-10 path. I carry a Verizon phone because it's the best everywhere else. Their EVDO network is second to none and they truly don't drop calls. When I get on my plane Monday morning, my iPhone gets forwarded to my VZW Curve and it stays that way until I get back home. Now that VZW and Alltel are merging, I will finally be able to dump my AT&T phone. | |

1 edit | NO-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O!! This survey cannot possibly have included San Francisco. To preserve myself from hypertension, I am posting part of my observation of Verizon Wireless from another site rather than recomposing it:
". . . It is not enough that Verizon Wireless should forfeit all its assets in punishment for its criminal, meretricious publicity. It is not enough that the executives who conceived this monstrous nationwide fraud should be confined to McNeil Island Federal Penetentiary forever. All this should be done, but the inmates who were Verizon executives should, in addition, be tended by Screws who were former Verizon Wireless telephone customer service reps.
An example, by way of, "The Mikado":
- - - After dragging his tin cup back and forth on the bars for an hour to attract the attention of a Screw - - -
Former Verizon Executive: "Can I have another piece of baloney? This one is full of worms.
Screw: We are sorry that you are not satisfied with our product.
FVE: OK. But can I have another piece of baloney?
Screw: Nothing is more important to us than the satisfaction of our inmates.
FVE: Ok. Ok. But I still need a new slice of baloney.
Screw: Are you sure that there are worms in your baloney?
FVE: They look like worms. They are squirming all over it and eating it.
Screw: Let me connect you with a dietitian who can help you.
FVE: Look, I don't need a dietitian. All I need is another slice of baloney. . . . . . .
Screw leaves.
- - - - thirty minutes pass - -
Enter 2nd Screw:
Hello. I'm Sandy. How can I assist you today?"
After a suitable number of years have passed, the former Verizon executives should be offered death as an alternative.

| You cant please everyone! As mentioned, its a personal choice.
My company was a long time Cingular/AT&T, but somehow, sprint got them to switch over. Either way, sucks for me because they both are terrible in my area. I usually have to step outside to get a clear call on either network.
However, T-Mobile has always been full service here.
I tried something different this year and went with Verizon as I get a decent discount thru my company. The CS has been great, always made sure my questions were answered, etc. Phones, yea...I can get the GPS without paying for. Nothing a $120 device from buy.com couldnt do (Garmin).
So for me, verizon seems to be doing well. Great signal at the house and only found a few bad spots on my commute to work.
But everyone is different.

| Seven Year Verizon Customer I have been a Verizon customer for seven years, after having a very bad experience with US Cellular. In our area Verizon has the best coverage, followed by US Cellular. Companies like AT&T, T-mobile, Sprint/Nextel are far behind in this area based on what I've heard from my friends. And when we go on trips, Verizon coverage has always been flawless for our family.
I did have an incident five years ago with Verizon billing which almost caused me to cancel, but that was resolved to our satisfaction. Other than that, I've always had good experiences with their customer service.
I have to admit though that there are only two reasons I have stuck with Verizon this long. First, I get a discount on my account through my employer. This discount really only negates all the taxes and un-fees that Verizon (and probably every other company) throws on the bill. Also, most of my friends and relatives are on Verizon as well. That pretty much takes the worry out of using up all of the anytime minutes on our account.
I understand what others are saying about disabling phone features and tacking on extra charges for every feature. I don't like how Verizon disables features on its phones. But, I have figured out how to add ringtones to our phones without paying for them.

They are most definitely the NOTwork. Around here AT&T is the best - some dropped calls (not with the new iPhone Firmware) but the reliability is EXCELLENT.
