Verizon Will Honor Upgrades Made During Website Glitch
by Karl Bode 08:12AM Tuesday Oct 01 2013
Yesterday we noted that a glitch in Verizon's website was allowing Verizon Wireless customers the ability to upgrade their handset without losing grandfathered unlimited data. Verizon has traditionally waged a quiet war on grandfathered unlimited users, restricting many plans, upgrades and other features unless they choose to go to metered plans.

Those who did manage to upgrade during the glitch don't have to worry, Verizon says they'll honor all of the upgrades made during the time it was live. A statement by the company sent to all press outlets:
quote:
Over the past weekend, there was a software issue involving some orders for customers seeking to upgrade their devices. A number of customers who were upgrading devices were able to maintain an unlimited monthly data feature while paying a subsidized price.

Verizon Wireless will honor those orders that were approved this past weekend, allowing those customers to retain their unlimited plans for the duration of their contract and receive their new device.

Verizon Wireless corrected this software issue today (9/30). The company no longer offers unlimited data plans and customers who want to retain existing unlimited data plans, must pay full retail price for a replacement phone.

Wow!!

I really wish I had found out about this before it ended. I could have upgraded for $500 less and still kept my unlimited plan. I'll still upgrade sometime next year, but I'll need to pay around $700 for a new smart phone.

Re: Wow!!

Or you can get a 1 year used one for $200 and keep the $500 for something more important.

Or he could just keep the phone he has now and keep the $200 for something more important.

Doesn't matter Verizon will kill off unlimited for good in 9 months. The sooner the better.

Just curious. Are you a share holder?

Re: Wow!!

nope. I just realize that unlimited data is not sustainable. And the sooner it ends the better for everyone. Also those not on unlimited data will also see their caps increased once unlimited data is killed off.

Sure the caps will increase, with an associated price bump alongside it.

What about it is not sustainable? There isn't any actual CAP that stops unlimited data. I think you're confused.

Please define the term "increased". Do you mean their data limit will be raised higher, or lowered?

My guess is employee. He's spent the past 2 days doing nothing but praising Verizon and bashing anyone who hints that they have an unlimited plan. No sane person would spent so much time and energy being so worried about other random people's business.

...I keep forgetting what site I'm on, don't I?

Why 9 months? What happens in 9 months? I want to keep the unlimited plan as long as possible. Since if I lose it my price will go up at least $65 a month.

Well except for the few that got their contracts extended this week-end the last unlimited data customers with contracts will have their contracts end on June 28 2014. Once there are ZERO unlimited data customers under contract what is stopping Verizon from ending it for good.

I want to keep the unlimited plan as long as possible. Since if I lose it my price will go up at least $65 a month.

Why would it go up? Unlimited data is $30 a month. The base data plan for non unlimited data customers is $30 a month.

I need to get a plan to cover the data I use right now. I currently pay under $70 for unlimted data and text and 450 minutes of talk. To get a comparable plan with the data I need, it would cost me around $130 a month.

So you think verizon is going to suddenly take unlimited from those once the contract is up? Someone needs to do some serious googling, they cant just overnight take it from customers, even out of contract they have to notify ahead, give them the option to stay or leave, etc.

Re: Wow!!

They only need to give 30 days to change the service. Especially with the contract being expired.

Uh, my unlimited contract will not end on June 28th 2014. More like the first half of 2016.

Good on you, Verizon.

Doesn't happen often. But this is kinda nice.

doubt

I seriously doubt once unlimited is completely stamped out that verizon will raise the caps.. Maybe after they accidently raise the rates to begin with will they slightly bump it up.. To even think that a company will raise the caps while they are charging $15 per gig over is just wishing upon a star... Sprint will have to build out and seriously give em a run for their money before either att or verizon shakes up their pricing...

I would like to see sprint maintain their unlimited on their phones, but perhaps include say 2 gigs hotspot data with that price, and then sell more data on a smaller scale to people rather than pay an additional chunk just for such little data... I mean hell, a standard family plan in america is a damn car payment for christ sakes!
