Verizon Wireless Again Tops In Customer Satisfaction
As more and more customers ditch landlines, go cell only...
The latest JD Power and Associates analysis of wireless carrier customer satisfaction again puts Verizon Wireless tops in five out of six geographical regions (T-Mobile ranked highest in the SouthWest). The survey ranks service on several criteria (listed in order of importance): call quality (32%); brand image (17%); cost of service (14%); service plan options (14%); billing (12%); and customer service (11%). The latest survey also finds that more than one-fourth of wireless phone customers have replaced their traditional landline connections at home and are now using wireless service exclusively to communicate on a daily basis.

Ditched..

I got rid of my landline years ago and haven't looked back since. I've had VZW since 2004? after one year with T-Mo and have been satisfied.

I can tell you exactly how: North America's best coverage (especially in cities), free 24/7 VZW-VZW calls, and almost never having to roam domestically. While VZW doesn't have the coolness that is iPhone, they have one thing right - a cell phone is only as good as the network behind it.

Not In Price Though...

To bad they are tied to CDMA... And just bought my wireless company.

I prefer having a SIM card so I'm not locked to the carriers phone selection.

Must be a Unicel user ehh? I was surprised they are migrating everyone over to CDMA from GSM...Should be interesting to see how that plays out. Hopefully they continue to build up there CDMA network in the very rural areas so I have more roaming options with Sprint.

Maybe an Improvment

I use Verizon Wireless.
They installed a couple towers here in Boothbay, but still the signal SUCKS at my home. (But good every place else)
However, there is a VERY HUGE tower near me that houses Unicell.
IF... Verizon does keep and change that tower, it will hugely improve my service signal at home.

That is the nature of CDMA technology. It does not penetrate buildings well at all. I have Sprint (CDMA as well) and had the same issue with reception in home, but i signed up for there Airave device thing (like a mini cell phone tower for your home that connects to your router)..now have full bars.

I am paying 4.99 a month. Many have gotten it for free through retentions...I love it so much I dont mind paying the charge though. All depends if you can put up with Sprint customer service.

I don't think that's a fair assessment of CDMA technology. I have 2 AT&T 3G phones and while the EDGE service has dead spots in my basement, the CDMA service provided by Verizon for my work cell phone works perfectly.

It certainly has to do with the signal strength outside to begin with. Sprint service running on 1900 Mhz (I believe) does not work well at all in any building I am in unless I have full bars outside to begin with. Verizon will always be a TAD better because they are at 800 Mhz or close to that which penetrates buildings a bit better.

why buy something like that and keep paying for it when you can buy a Cell repeater for your home and only spend $5o one time and just use their cell tower.

I didnt buy it, I managed to snag it for free...only to pay the 4.99 a month for the service itself. I had never thought of the cell repeater. Any links to some good ones?

EDIT-- I just googled some and it seems most are up in the $300 range?

those are more for warehouse type buildings. Lowe's got suckered into buying those types from Nextel and they're a POS. let me find a few links to the ones that THD bought and put in some of their stores.

You should do a *228 SEND select option 2 at least once a month.
It updates the PRL which "helps" your phone know about new towers.
(This is a very technical explanation)....lol

Re: Maybe an Improvment

Not exactly. It does update the PRL but it does not tell it about new towers. That is a misconception being perpetuated by verizon techs and techs at other CDMA companies. What is does is update that list telling it what towers to use first when roaming. Say you leave Verizon service area and your phone finds Sprint or Alltel it has to choose which to use. It looks at the PRL and sees Alltel above Sprint so uses the Alltel signal. If a new tower with Verizon goes up it will automatically pick it up as it will be using an SID that Verizon uses.

As far as 1900 v 800 I find it has more to do with how the network is built. In my area Sprint blows USCC out of the water. Even when they are on the same tower the USCC signal goes 5 miles while the Sprint signal goes around 15 miles (flat land). My guess is the downtilt for the USCC panels is a bit too much and causing them to get less range out of that, and others in this area, tower. That is causing a lot of dead areas for USCC which they are trying to fix by building more towers but they are slow to do any expansion.

I have many friends who have Unicel. I just never cared about there plans price wise or feature wise. Although not a huge deal...not having nationwide coverage in most of there plans would be a deal breaker for me as well...although I dont travel much. lol If they stayed around for a few more years, I think they would have started falling into the bottom of the barrel, since I dont think they have the infrastructure data wise and feature wise to keep up.

It's just a shame VZW is so locked in to support their own revenue. Locked phones, Vcast etc...
I like to look at my cell provider the same way I look at my ISP. They are how I get to the content I want. Service provider not content provider.

Yes unicel was lacking in innovation but not in being an open network.

Verizon wireless is that best

Had T-mobile for about 8 years. Used to get alot of dropped calls until I could no longer get a signal in my house when I moved a couple of years ago. Used to drop calls alot on the highway.

Even though I had a contract with T-mobile, I didn't have to pay a penalty to break it since I could not get a signal.

I am very happy with Verizon Wireless now even though they give you less minutes per dollar than any other carrier.

For those who don't have a landline and need FIOS, Verizon now offers triple play flex(TV, internet and cellphone) with built in discounts. No need to be tied to a landline if you don't need one.

Re: Verizon wireless is that best

I had Verizon Wireless for 2001-2002, but couldn't stand them after that (too many screw ups and dropped calls).
The kicker in the end was the cancellation (at the corp store no less), which they 'lost' and kept billing me, and even went as far as attempting to send me to collections. After a threat to the BBB and Lawyers, they stopped (no marks on credit report either).
I've had great service on AT&T Wireless/ Cingular / AT&T Mobility since then. AT&T's current 3G service blows chunks with MANY dropped calls through, and wouldn't recommend them until they deploy more spectrum on 3G.

I have never had any issues with Verizon - can't get a signal in some buildings but the resold AT&T I had before did the same thing and at least I get my vm quickly.

We have 4 phones (me, wife and both her parents) and we don't come close to using all of our minutes. Just wish they offered a 250 minute plan at about $25.

T-Mobile Won the Southwest Region - scored well elsewhere

A little news correction, T-Mobile actually won the Southwest Region leaving Verizon or US Cellular in second place there.

T-Mobile clearly did well anywhere it competed. In most areas where they competed, Alltel and U.S. Cellular did very very well, too. AT&T and Sprint-Nextel never seemed to garner better than average or below-average Overall Satisfaction ratings.

T-Mobile also had top ratings in the West (5 out of 5 in all categories), yet somehow Verizon won the award with its average scores...seems a bit odd.

The oddity is in the display. In the calculated "Overall" category, which is weighted score, apparently Verizon got more points.

Verizon? Tops in WHAT? CA 2008 30 day trial on Internet

Went to Wal-Mart looking for a wireless Internet Solution. Was told that Verizon had a 30 day Money Back Trial on thier USB Modem and Service , I gave them my Credit Card and they ran my credit . I took the Modem , USB and installed their "CONNECTION MANAGER" for conection to the internet. It was terribly slow, but OK for nothing. I thought. I confirmed this "30 day trial.,NO MONEY if I didnt like it deal with thier customer service and on line with thier "chat window"" Kept copies. Turned it back before the 30 day trial period was over and was told by the Rep at Wal-Mart, that I would be charged Nothing. I got a bill for $9434.23 ,, OK so I made 15 phone calls and got the bill reduced to 165.00 . Now this was for 8 gigs of usage. 8 gigs!!!! Thats all! SO ,, Like I said before ,If I worked for Verizon, I'd quit, If I had a Verizon phone , I'd sell it. Ha ha ha. Hey , keeping it real. I have also had several friends who had used their internet service and had very simular problems with the billing , Even the rep at waal-mart had it too. Lots of 2 thousand , three thousand dollars bills for usage . Their own connection manager software invites you to use the text messaging and that alone is 45 cents a message. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. And to back this up,, COPY OF BILL ON REQUEST OK? j.dbond@yahoo.com PS Clearwire is slow but I have never been charged for that kind of usage . 30 bucks a month for three times the speed.
And I work in the Business. But not for them, I wouldn't .

Funny, but not funny , this was a bill for 8 gigs of usage, just internet access. No phone calls . Excuse me 1400.oo dollars of it was using their "connection managers" text message program which disquises itself as a free Internet SMS service,, But Noooooo,, 45 cents a message. plus 2 bucks for MMS. So Bill copies upon request ,, have scanner will email.

Im not kidding and they mad no mistake that is the "overage charges for the 50 mb plan, which someone would have to be ,, well. to take, but even though it was free for those 30 days I wonder rrhow many people get billed outragously and PAY it?

Had them and hated them!

Have had 2 contracts with Verizon. First one was when cell phones first started coming out. Service sucked to the max then.

Had Verizon up until about a year ago again and switched to T-Mobile. T-Mobile blows Verizon away any day of the week around here. Can even use the thing in my house, although not quite good enough to drop my landline. NEVER was able to use Verizon at home, even if I went outside.

satisfaction is very relative

typically, but not exclusively, quality of cell phone service is related to proximity to the tower---hence, for any given carrier, the quality of cell phone service where you spend the bulk of your time living, working, shopping, driving, et cetera is dependent on how well your/any carrier provides coverage. we have attws & get great coverage in the areas where we spend our time however i'm sure that others with attws, vzon tmobile can make similar claims. bub

QFT

My mom and I are VZW customers *because* of that ironclad coverage. All over Maryland (even in the mountains of Maryland's "skillet handle"), Atlantic City, Texas, Las Vegas, the phones Just Plain Work. Because we are both VZW customers, calls between us are always free (24/7), and the only time either one of us was ever hit with a roaming charge is when mom was making cell calls from aboard a cruise ship. Who wants features I'll never use (and therefore waste money on) when I can get rock-solid network reliability wherever I am and whenever I need it instead (and get it at no extra cost)?
