Verizon Wireless Again Tops JD Power Network Quality Study
Data-Related Problems Less Prevalent on LTE Networks
by Karl Bode 12:56PM Friday Aug 24 2012 Tipped by FFH See Profile
Verizon Wireless once again came out on top on the latest J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Wireless Network Quality Performance Study (Volume 2), which surveyed 27,000 various wireless customers between January and June of this year. According to the study, which tracked calling, messaging and data service performance, Verizon scored highest in five regions, including the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, West, and Southwest. The study also found the number of data-related problems, especially those related to slow connection speeds, is significantly lower among customers using 4G LTE-enabled devices than among those using devices with older 3G/4G technology standards, such as WiMAX and HSPA+. "With the network advantages of using 4G LTE technology, in terms of spectrum efficiencies and increase in data connection speeds and reliability, it's not unexpected that wireless carriers are rushing to expand and upgrade their networks to align with this latest generation of service," says JD's Kirk Parsons.

Every survey(JD Powers, Consumer Reports, etc) always rank Verizon as the best wireless service provider.

I have used most of the wireless providers out there and Verizon is undoubtably the best of the bunch.

I have used quite a few different carriers also and here in West Michigan, Verizon is a total POS! It would be my second to last choice to ever use them again. (Virgin Mobile would be my dead last choice)

Not true. Don't you think AT&T could buy the top spot if they wanted? Any proof of your claim besides your unfounded suspicions?

Re: Non News News...

A simple google on JDP pulls about more than 2 million results a one example »www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2006/0···ers-iqs/

What the story show is pretty simple, manipulate data to make customer top the charts in Option X... Allow customer to sell it in adds and make a profit from the bogus data manipulation.

You need not to be brain surgeon to see it clearly.

Ummm?

I have a problem with this statement. A properly built-out network should be able to handle the load, especially with the similarities of speeds possible with each of the respective technologies. That Verizon has the money and is willing to build out a faster network, where the others either don't have the money, or are unwilling to spend it without proper competition, speaks volumes.

- Interestingly, guess who was the most recent company to finally build out 3G here? AT&T
- And who is still EDGE? T-mobile
- US Cellular is in process of building out LTE, and their 3G network is at least fast enough to do streaming radio, and in some places, enough for Amazon Prime video.
- Verizon has LTE east and west of here, but not here, I currently do not have experience with their 3G data speeds in the area.
- Sprint has just fixed the daily occurrence of sub 0.1mbit speeds. Suffer with that for over 12 months as I have, and I guarantee that you'll be happy with any speed increase.

It's funny what happens when different perspectives are brought to the table isn't it? And lovely when competition doesn't work well, if at all.

I've been a costomer

since about 2000. I switched from US Cellular because Verizon had a bedder handset line. Then I added 2 shared lines, for my Mom and her "husband." (Yes, they pay me monthly)
I've since got an iPhone and indeed, Verizon coverage is by far superior (in my State) to ATT for an iPhone (or any Verizon service) I was finally able to USE!
I am and probably will be a Verizon user for a long time. But over the last few years, I admit, I am becoming dismayed by their changing polices resembling that of ATTs bull shit.

On the home page...

Verizon tops JD followed by ATT pays no taxes...

Irony and coincidences... they go so well together.

Finally kicked AT&T to the curb

Mom finally agreed to switch to Verizon. We bought two Samsung Convoy dumb phones and added mom and grandma to my share everything plan at $30 a phone. We were paying two phone bills ($120 to VZW and $136 to AT&T). I had 900 minutes and mom shared 1400 minutes with grandma. Now we have unlimited talk and text and 4GB of data and I now have an iPad and Jetpack in the mix all for $200 per month.

Call quality is much better, calls to her don't go straight to voicemail (as they did with AT&T due to no signal), and she can hear better on VZW (she has a slight hearing loss due to age, being in her mid 50's).

I wish I still lived in Iowa; Everything there from rent and groceries to Cable TV is much cheaper in Iowa (especially with an overbuilder in town).

Depends on the area

Sure, this is great for the average nationwide, but in my neck of the woods, AT&T is just the best.

Sprint I will stay

I have Sprint and while its not the greatest its still a better deal than Verizon or AT&T. Between me and my wife we use more than 5gigs of data and my plan is unlimited. Verizons plans are way too overpriced. I dont mind paying but when you pay almost double for a plan that I get with Sprint I see no reason to get them. Just my .02
