Updated: 8:00 p.m. ET Aug. 29, 2004Verizon Communications Inc. plans to run fiber-optic cable directly to customer premises this fall in Suffolk and Bristol counties, cracking wide open the Internet spigot for homes and small businesses, possibly to include video service.

Since first revealing the details of its planned fiber-to-the-premises service this summer, Verizon officials are keeping their lips sealed regarding a timeline for FTTP service in the Boston area.

"Our decision to roll out FTTP in certain states is based on market and competitive conditions," said Verizon spokesman John Vincenzo.

Woot.

I am in Bristol County.

I live in an apartment complex though, does Verizon have to just come to the pole? Or actually into your house?

'Cause if they have to come into the wiring on the actual houses instead of just the streets, I'll never get it. They can't come into the apartment complex and tear apart the wiring.
