Videotron Fires Up Their Wireless Service Offering users the quadruple play, hints at iPhone As users in our Canadian Broadband forum are discussing, Canada's Quebecor this week launched a new wireless service under the Videotron brand. Videotron can of course now offer its cable broadband customers " quadruple play" service, and the company is offering a new voice plan starting at $32.95 for those who also bundle home phone, broadband and TV services. Of note: during the Q&A session for the service's launch, a Videotron executive suggested that Apple is working on an AWS-compliant iPhone -- and that users should "expect an announcement in the coming months" on an iPhone launch on the new Videotron network.

| | Videotron is basically Wind for quebec Videotron got wind's frequency for quebec only.
I hope Videotron and Wind manage to strike up a deal for essentially managing each other's travelling customers. That way as the AWS network rolls out. People arent locked into small areas only.
| | | The games begin What videotron is doing is trying to capture the entire home to it's service. They are already #1 for telephone, #1 in internet, and #1 in the Bell VS. Videotron internet speed wars.
They already re-sell Rogers wireless, but now that chunk of the pie will be soley videotrons. Rogers will come out the biggest loser in Quebec and I expect them to start a price-match just barely better than videotron (not a price-war).
Once they swollow-up Rogers piece of the pie and gain 18% (+/-) of the wireless market, they will be on the Bell Canada customer hunt more agressively.
New wireless entrant, Public Mobile, that operates in Quebec will have to pull it's socks up to compete and market itself more agressively, or be bought out within the next few years.
All this really is with their non-agressive pricing and free calls to other videotron users, is an attack-plan to get people to switch all home services to videotron. They are after the home.

1 edit | All flash, no substance Vidéotron made a lot of noise before they announced their 3G+ network. They launched a massive marketing campaign last week, with billboards announcing "LA FIN DU TEMPS APPROCHE'' (the end of time approaches) in big orange letters on a black background, without any image or logo. It was guessed pretty quickly on the Videotron forum that it was in fact Videotron's campaign for wireless services. The media then began to discuss it, and ''Special analysts'' began spouting irrelevant bullshit and statistics on the news in the vain hope to look smart.
Frankly, now that prices have been announced, it is severely disappointing. Videotron could have began a massive price war to lure as many new clients in as possible. The 1B infrastructure needs to begin paying back quickly as one of our user said on the Videotron forum, but unfortunately, the pricing is in line with the other competitors.
With Law 60 now being effective, there are no more contracts. If you consider all providers, Bell/Solo/Kudoo, Rogers, Fido, Public Mobile & Videotron, the latter could have revolutionized the wireless market. Alas, they simply joined in the already formed band.
Public Mobile, which launched recently as well, have been aggressive in marketing their 24$ unlimited voice plan all over Montreal, and their 40$ unlimited voice across Canada (!!!) with VM and CID. Videotron offers unlimited talk in your ''urban zone'' for 32.95$ with VM, CID and 50MB of data usage, which to be honest, is a very weak offer.
Videotron's only unlimited voice offer that covers the entire province of Qc is 60$ (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and that doesn't include any options whatsoever... Public Mobile offers Canada Wide unlimited voice for 20$ less, WITH VM, CID, 3-way calling and call waiting.
Data Plans are just as unimpressive. »www.videotron.com/mobile/service···ile.html 5GB for 40$ is the best bang for your buck, but still horribly expansive vs Fido or Roger's 30$ 6GB.
I find it difficult not to call this entire launch a bad joke. Videotron's website is misleading with their pricing as the advertised prices concern clients who already have 3 others services with them... for certain options, it's simply not possible to find out what the option costs without any other Videotron services unless you call or chat.
Bhell, Rogers and Fido must be laughing their asses off so hard right now. Public Mobile could be labeled as a much more revolutionizing entity than Videotron's launch. My current Fido plan (which is a retention plan mind you, but Videotron's retention department is famous for being horrible in their offers) blows ANY Videotron offer out of the water.
Videotron made a lot of noise, but it was all flash. There's no substance, nothing of interest and no incentive to switch for anyone who already has a carrier. Frankly, the only advantage is that with an added player, you get more negotiating power whenever you deal a plan with your carrier's retention department.
Way too little, way too late.
| | | | Re: All flash, no substance »www.montrealgazette.com/Quebecor···ory.html All Quebecers have a stake in Quebecors success, he said, because the provinces pension fund manager, the Caisse de dépôt et placement, is a major shareholder.
The nationalist card wasnt the only one he played. Casting himself as a defender of consumers, Péladeau said hes trying to break the grip of a few incumbent companies.
heh, these words are going to come back and bite him in the ass.

No, it's just another province (so no obvious demarcation when entering apart from a sign), although a lot of stuff is done differently (de facto control over immigration, if not de jure, different basis for legal system, different taxation structure, etc).
Quebec's wireless market is far less competitive than in Ontario, as Ontario has more competitors for that market. In terms of new entrants, Ontario got three (WIND, Public Mobile, Mobilicity), and Quebec got two (Videotron, Public Mobile).
The major player of the new entrants are WIND and Videotron. Unfortunately, whereas WIND chose to try to steal users from the incumbents by offering more value for the same money (most WIND plans have some sort of unlimited component), Videotron chose to set their pricing higher than the incumbents and rely on aggressive bundle discounts to try to compete. Customers that don't use Videotron for other services are unlikely to see Videotron as a viable option. -- Developer: Tomato/MLPPP, Linux/MLPPP, etc »fixppp.org

| | Videotron sucks big time
I have Public Mobile, 40 bucks all included plus unlimited international text, thus I do not have to pay when I text to Europe, Middle East or Latin America. Thus Videotron sucks big time. The Ali Baba gang of the 3 amigos: Robbers, Hell and Hellus is been joined by Videotron now is the 4 amigos.
