WOW Bucks Cable Trend, Adds TV Subscribers
While the gains are modest at just 3,700 basic video subscribers added on the fourth quarter, cable provider Wide Open West (WOW) has managed to beat an overall trend of industry losses on the quarter. Overall, WOW added 12,000 customers for the second half of the year. It's not entirely clear what they're doing differently; the company is one of several to sock its users with a new Broadcast TV Fee below the line. Still, WOW appears to be reducing churn by treating customers well overall, the company consistently winning JD Power awards for customer satisfaction in the North-Central area of the United States.

Wow

I am pretty sure they are still actively expanding their service area so that might be part of the reason they are showing gains in subscribers.

Re: Wow

They are. They're busy in Ohio expanding the reach they had before- including in the Columbus and Cleveland areas.

Re: Wow

TBBroadband, What does it take to get WOW into our area? I live in Galena OH which is a time warner cable area and they refuse to run internet and only provide digital cable finally this year(house built 1993).

I would love for WOW to come but fear there might be legal agreements why they wouldnt be allowed in?

WOW picked up the old Knology territory in 2012 and that likely counted as picking up TV subscribers last year.

WOW

WOW is great. Both their service and their customer service are fantastic. I signed up for a package with TV and internet and the prices were locked in for almost 2 years. They are orders of magnitude better than Comcast.

Re: WOW

Exactly. Comcast added over 10x the video subscribers that WOW did in Q4. If anything THEY are bucking the trend.

The thing about WOW

is that their speed tiers suck compared to most of the industry, especially upload speeds. I'm thinking about cancelling for that reason.

Customer Service

I've had great customer service with WOW. They only have two tiers, so less confusion on what and where a channel is available. The only problem I have with them is that they are so behind the curve on internet speeds for the price you pay. For $52, they should be offering something like 25/5 instead of 15/2.

Re: Customer Service

I like their customer service as well, but I'm not impressed with their slower than average speeds, plus they charge too much for those speeds, and when they drop a channel here and there, they pass on the savings to the customer by raising rates and contend that they're only doing it to add more channels and services.

Number 1 reason

Number 1 reason is WOW actually Helps customers unlike TWC Everything is better from the Boxes to the People. When I had to leave WOW because I moved I did't like it. I was Very happy when I moved & get Wow again.

Wow!

I've had them for about 2 years and their rates are MUCH better than Time Warner and their support is much more helpful! They are the best cable company I've had and wouldn't switch!

Re: Wow!

If Comcast would loose the caps, I would dump WOW like a hot potato.

Great here

Have no view on the subscriber issue, but I switched to WOW after the final straw with horrid Comcast service. WOW providing 40/10 for $40 monthly. Rock solid and little jitter. WOW took over Knology in TN and has a thoroughly provisioned network to work with.

Their customer service is awesome.
