Re: Wish Comcast would announce thissaid by mlcarson:I wish Comcast could say the same thing. Still waiting for D3 here. Comcast has rolled it out to 80% of its footprint so far. And they are MUCH larger than WOW and have many more locations to upgrade. And at least Comcast has actually made it available to that 80%. WOW hasn't actually turned up any customers yet.

wow needs to look at cutting down on the analog channels soowow needs to look at cutting down on the analog channels soon.
What they should is move most of there analog channels over to clear qam.
|
| |
Re: wow needs to look at cutting down on the analog channels soolook for them to be moving most of them to Digital like everyone else. They'll keep the very basics on Clear QAM and then the rest digital. save even more bandwidth. and if they went SDV they'd save even more.
|
| | |
Re: wow needs to look at cutting down on the analog channels sooQAM is digital.
They're only obligated to keep the local channels on clear QAM. The rest of it can be encrypted as is standard practice.

Re: wow needs to look at cutting down on the analog channels soothat is until the FCC will be smacked for getting into the cable tv business. Because after all; its a private network that does NOT use public airwaves.

WOW may beat Comcast to D3 in Michigan? If Comcast doesn't get D3 in the Detroit area (specifically Downriver) soon, WOW could make for a good change. It'll be nice to have options.

Re: WOW may beat Comcast to D3 in Michigan? One thing we didn't know moving into our apartment complex here is that it is Comcast only. No WOW (even though we are in WOW area). And actually..they have WOW boxes in here. No Uverse either, and DSL is lucky to sync at 600kb/s. Uggh.

Re: WOW may beat Comcast to D3 in Michigan? This is good news. Who ever is 1st wins! I'm currently with Comcast but will switch over to WOW in a heartbeat if they bring D3 to my area before Comcast. I currently have Comcast and currently on the top D2 speeds package and I have to admit speeds are great, I can only imagine how much better D3 will be.
Once WOW does provide D3 speeds at reasonable prices, which I expect they will based on their track record, I probably would give them a call. I'm sorta tired of the high Comcast monthly bill.

Detroit's market has D3. I know someone that is part of their market and gets offers all the time. They just choose never to upgrade since the 16/2 is good enough for them. Maybe your area isn't but much of it is.

Re: WOW may beat Comcast to D3 in Michigan? No ... maybe your friends area is 1 of the few, but the vast majority of the Detroit area doesn't have it.

Re: WOW may beat Comcast to D3 in Michigan?Yep, mustang is right. There are 3 or 4 cities that have D3 in the metro area (I know of Canton and Hazel Park) but the other many, many cities are a no. Michigan is the ugly stepchild of Comcast. If they didn't have WOW nipping at their heels as competition, the area would be even worse.

Re: WOW may beat Comcast to D3 in Michigan?Adrian, MI is able to get D3. And they only otherwise have Frontier there.

I have WOW Interent Service...Speeds of 15/2 Mbps. And for the most part it just flies. WoW does have a hiccup every now and then. Had an outage of several hours a few weeks ago. Testing WoW with speed test around the country the download speed comes in consistently above 15+Mbps. Upload comes just under 2Mbps, so their service works great. Would like to have 5Mbps. It will be interesting to see what WoW will offer when D3 comes out though. As for the cable system, it really is behind compared to AT&T U-Verse (had U-Verse). I feel like I am in the 90's with their cable system. The cable system could stand to be overhauled, and I mean overhauled. Thumbs up on the Internet service, two thumbs down on their cable system. As for VoIP, I have T-Mobile so can't rate WoW for that service. At 5 dollars hard to switch services.

Service (Internet and Cable) was out this afternoon for about 1.5 hours. Two outages of about 4-6 hours this month is a little to much. No reason given for this outage. Hope it is a network upgrade to D3 and better cable.

another year goes by...the cable industry not seeing subscriber growth (using docsis 3 equipment) at the high prices for 50-100+mbit internet...
how many years will go by before they decide to offer the bandwidth at an affordable price.. or somebody else does first?
|
|
How awful is this pricing going to be?$73/mo for 15/3? That's terrible! I can't wait to see the packages and pricing for D3...
Even the deathstar's UVerse has 24/3 for $68 including the equipment lease. Or 18/1.5 for $58.
|
| |
Re: How awful is this pricing going to be?its 15/2 which you ALWAYS are able to achive over your downloads speeds. If not; there is an issue on your street that should be taken care of. The package is also 15/1 and 15/2. One is 68 and the other is 73. And w're not comparing TV with D3. Only HSI so equipment rental doesn't apply as U-Verse requires you to purchase your modem or use an old on. Also the 24/3 is available to ONLY a SMALL number of people. Not everyone will be able to get it unlike with cable where anyone in the market can get once the full system is upgraded.
And as far as U-Shit. you can keep your out of country techs because when something goes wrong with my WOW service- I talk to an ENGLISH speaking person based in CO or I can call the Systems Manager directly on his cell or email him. Can't do that with U-Verse.
|
| |
Right, 15/2. I was being accidentally generous. I have the 18/1.5 profile now with Uverse and consistently get 17/1.3. My brother has WOW a few miles away and gets 2.75/.75 consistently on the 8/? package. Despite numerous calls, nothing has improved. They do offer every time to upgrade him to the 15/2 package for more $$ however!
My modem is rented @ $3/mo. I do not have TV service, I canceled it when the promo rate ended.
The 24/3 profile is widely available in Columbus. That's wonderful that you get someone english speaking to fix your problems with WOW, I just don't have any problems. Same with my parents, they have had AT&T DSL since 2002 and never made a single service call other than when they moved down the street to transfer service.
I'm not a fan of AT&T as a whole, but they offer the best service for the lowest price in this area.
And don't even get me started on Columbus Insight. They upgrade every other market but leave Columbus to rot because of their weird contract with TWC for Roadrunner. Insight will never see D3. I'm wondering if where I'm at will because both Insight & WOW are available.
