| | | From what I can see on Walmart's site ( »www.walmart.com/ip/Email-Deliver···ethod=rr ), it looks like you can choose the "Go Big" option and get 4GB that doesn't expire if you use it at least once in a 12 month timespan, or the "Go Bigger" plan and get 8GB of data that expires in 30 days. Either option costs $45.
They also have a "Go Big" never expiring 1.5GB/"Go Bigger" 30 day expiring 3GB option for $25.

I think $10 is a ripoff! Verizon charges $50 for 1 GB. That's 5X a ripoff.

So go from 1 GB to 2 G is an $10. To go from 2 GB to 4 GB is $10. In fact every 2 GB after that is $10 or $5 per GB. Still high but not the $50 per GB you are implying.
Also why are even comparing to this to PHONE service when the more applicable comparison would be Verizon's HomeFusion service. It's $60 a month for $10 GB and you get 4G speeds. | |

Contrary to the usual thumping that "data is data", a wireless gigabyte without a recurring monthly fee is certainly worth a lot more than one that expires in 30 days.
In this case, you're paying $11.25/GB to "own" it.
If your needs are sporadic (like mine), that's not a bad rate compared to renting expiring GB's at $5/month or more. | |

Washington, DC | I really like buying data transfer that doesn't expire There's a VPN service I use while travelling, where you buy so many Gigabytes for a fixed price, and you can use it whenever you want. I still haven't ran out after a year.

From one of the reviews on the Walmart site, I read that they provide a way to measure your usage:
"The account management website is also very useful, as it measures usage in tenths of a megabyte (instead of rounding up) and instantly updates your remaining balance."
And also mentions: "The auto refill option is also great"

Bradenton, FL | So far, seems like a good deal I bought one today, after checking as many alternatives as I could.
I'd rather have a 4G version, but that didn't exist at a similar price.
I have 90 days to return it if I don't like it.
The hotspot came with a bonus 3gb/30 days, which auto-loads when I finish the first card. It shows in the account as a refill waiting.
I bought the $10 card for my initial purchase, and chose 500mb with no expiration (vs 1gb for 30 days.)
I suspect that this will carry me almost to New Year's Day.
My planned use is mainly in the RV when the campgrounds have the (commonly) pathetic weak public wifi.
My other options are to
a) try Foxfi with my wife's gingerbread phone, since Sprint has ICS locked down, or
b) ~Pay~ for the tethering add-on and have it turned on and off over and over, or
c) choose a more expensive plan, maybe with 4G. (Don't like that option.)
I'll know more within a week or so - we'll be trying it out at a Rally in Daytona next weekend. Hold my beer - I'm going in.  | |
