Court opens bidding on bankrupt carrier

Before there was the ugly Verizon Fairpoint kerfuffle, there was Hawaii Telcom, who, like Fairpoint, bit off more they could chew when they acquired DSL and landline networks Verizon didn't feel were worth upgrading. Like Fairpoint, when Verizon divested those networks in Hawaii, Hawaii Telcom struggled under the load and their executives repeatedly issued bubbly statements insisting that everything was fine. Unlike Fairpoint (for now), Hawaii Telcom filed for bankruptcy last December. If you're interested in owning the carrier, bidding for the operator opened this week.

It is either him or Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord) as the Hawaii State Icon.

Re: Wow

Be thankful, it's not a "Lost" player (based on SOME of their in state behavior, maybe it should have been called "looser!" (not that the phone company has every been a winner )

The fact that Lost is FILMED in Hawaii is not as important as the use of Magnum or McGarrett from shows SET in Hawaii.

Could Frontier manage to go Bankrupt now and not later? So that Verizon couldn't sell their landlines off?

Here is the new way to make money in the recession, since you can't make it out of thin air from bad loans, now you declare bankruptcy, wipe your debt, and give yourself stock options and dividends next quarter for all your hard work with all the new $ that used to have to goto debt service.

Meh, hopefully we the customer don't get hit too hard by any changes. Currently Hawaii telcom is the most reliable ISP available on the island.

Hawaiian Telcom

Hawaiian Tel took over Verizon and had some problems. Every problem I've ever had w/ them has been resolved. I pay for local phone & 3000/756 @ $46/mo. I get local phone & a very steady, no problem, 2646/726. I would hate to see some mainland okole (a--hole), buy this out.
