A study shows that the area is a great place for foreign investors, lured by the weak dollar, to set up shopBy MARIA M. PEROTINStar-Telegram Staff Writer
With the dollar's value waning, it's now cheaper for companies to do business in the United States than in many European countries. And the cost advantage is especially wide in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Those are the findings of a study released Thursday by the accounting firm KPMG, which examined the cost of doing business in more than 100 cities in 10 countries. The study measured 27 factors, including the price of labor, real estate, utilities and taxes.
Only Mexico fares significantly better than the United States, which has costs similar to those in Canada and Australia, according to the report.
Within the United States, Southern cities had the lowest costs, with the Metroplex ranking among the cheapest areas for business.
That's largely because the region benefits from cheaper natural gas and lower construction
