Other manufacturers got it right.
I'd love to be able to "buy American" again. For now, I own a car from a foreign company but built in TN. For me, that's good enough until Detroit can show me otherwise.
While I love the Challenger, I haven't driven it, and I wonder if it's similar in form/function to the 300/Charger. With that said, I don't have the money or will for a 3rd car, and without a midlife crisis, the Challenger is out. -- "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin

| Re: At the new Government Motors... Frankly speaking, I don't care who I buy from. Ultimately, at the end of the day, I'd like to see 100% of my money go toward an American company.
With that said, my Dad bought American from 1964 until 1995. Bought an Audi. Grass was greener, but not by a large margin. Then, he bought a Nissan. God damn thing is a tank.
For me, I was born in 1975. I graciously accepted hand-me-downs of whatever I was offered, in my case a 1981 Olds Cutlass Supreme which, at 18 I loved. I'm not sure it was safe to drive, but hell, it got me places. In 1996 my parents gave me a 1991 Olds Cultlass Supreme, and again, grateful. Not the best thing in the world, and I had to tinker and replace certain things, but whatever. When I was older, I bought a VW, and unless I hear that VW makes the best thing since sliced bread, VW/Audi will never, ever get another dime from me.
Right now, and since 2003, I drive Nissans simply because they work, and don't need jack shit except oil changes and regular maintenance. -- "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin

I am sure you probably know this but for anyone else who is curious, you can tell where your car was made simply by looking at the first character of the VIN. If it is a 1, 4 or 5, it was made in the USA.
As for the reliability issues... my mom's family still drives Pontiacs... and they are on a first name basis with the mechanic because they visit him so often. In this day and age, the fact that such a relationship can even happen is in itself an indictment of GM and Chrysler.
I am just so happy Ford is at least trying to do the right thing. I might even take them off my ban list if their quality continues to improve, though it will be a long time before I can afford a pickup truck. -- Blagojevich / Madoff 2012!

So what's the excuse of the American owned car companies for building shoddy products year after year? It can't be the North American nationality of the factory workers. It has to be in upper management.

Me too, it could persuade me to buy a 'foreign' car.

Me too, but I have always been a ford guy. A lot of my dad's friends were saying how they were going to buy a ford truck because they got better mileage than the one they were driving at the time. Also a few years ago we were talking and he said the first carco to make a truck that got 20mi+ would be the last one standing, thats about what our ford truck gets. coincidence? I think so.

1 edit | Re: At the new Government Motors... Fords are terrible cars....especially if you live in an area where you have an emission standard inflicted upon you. I've had 2 Fords fail (one a Merc Sable w/56,000 mls on it and the other a Ford Windstar w/67.000 mls on it). The merc had the engine rebuilt and because I was still 1-one thousanth of over in hydrocarbons they failed me again. This cost me 2400, and I ended up junking it because the state threatens your license over it. The f***ing Winstar had to go because a $5 dollar overdrive sensor went bad. This sensor light is on the gear shifter, but these idiot engineers at Ford buried the sensor itself within the tranmission assembly. So, if I wanted the $5 part replaced, I would have had to drop the trans. Once the sensor went bad the check engine light came on automatically disqualifying me from having tested because you can't have a car tested w/the check engine light on. Never again....Ford was no help in this matter. As soon as the note was paid for ....problems. My used F-150 was no better.....I will drive a Yugo before another Ford. | My week was great. How was yours? First I found chex quest 3 online. B4 I post the link I will give you some history about chex quest. It was made in 1996 and given out in boxes of chex, if was a great game if you have not played it yet I suggest you download it. In 1997 chex quest 2 came out, it was just as good as the first IMHO, but the first level had one glitch(it was fixed in CQ3 don't worry), a demo of CQ3 was on the site and a thing about CQ4(never released) a few years later the company that made chex quest went out of business.... Chex quest 3 was never finished, a fan made one came out in 1988 but it had LOT(if not all) of stuff stolen from various other .wads. and did a LOT of damage to CQ's rep. In june of 08 chex quest 3 was announced by Charles Jacobi(he name is also the no clip mode cheat for all 3 games) it was released in Sep of 08,It also includes improved(graphically) versions of Chex Quest and Chex Quest 2. you can down load it here »chexquest.wikia.com/wiki/Chex_Quest_3 Here are the chex quest fan forums »www.chexquest.org/index.php?PHPS···c5a9;www I go by 12me91 there, and on youtube.
Second I found out if you order a studio15 from dell(found here »www.dell.com/us/en/home/notebook···ref=lthp and its only the one on the far right BTW) you can get a dell mini 10v for $150, it normally goes for $300. I plan to order mine tonight,

| Recent Breaking News The Bush administration built an unprecedented surveillance operation to pull in mountains of information far beyond the warrantless wiretapping previously acknowledged, a team of federal inspectors general reported Friday, questioning the legal basis for the effort but shielding almost all details on grounds they're still too secret to reveal.
"The notion that basically one person at the Justice Department, John Yoo, and Hayden and the vice president's office were running a program around the laws that Congress passed, including a reinterpretation of the Fourth Amendment, is mind boggling," Harman said.
Ah yes, more news of our glorious former leader's illegal and secret antics. Seriously, Bush is going to go down as one of the 5 worst presidents ever.

| Saddam lied, Saddam died Cut/pasted from "The Best of the Web Today" blog by James Taranto, a couple of days ago.
Like Francisco Franco, Saddam Hussein is still dead, but the Washington Post reports on a new (all right, newly released) series of interviews with the Iraqi dictator, who was hanged in 2006 for crimes against humanity. The Post reports that Saddam acknowledged to an FBI interviewer "that he allowed the world to believe he had weapons of mass destruction because he was worried about appearing weak to Iran":
Hussein, in fact, said he felt so vulnerable to the perceived threat from "fanatic" leaders in Tehran that he would have been prepared to seek a "security agreement with the United States to protect [Iraq] from threats in the region." . . .
Hussein noted that Iran's weapons capabilities had increased dramatically while Iraq's weapons "had been eliminated by the UN sanctions," and that eventually Iraq would have to reconstitute its weapons to deal with that threat if it could not reach a security agreement with the United States.
The bad news is that Iran continues to pursue nuclear weapons. The good news is that Iraq has reached a security agreement with the U.S.
This ought to (but will not) silence those who've been determined to rewrite history with the claim that Iraq's weapons of mass destruction were an invention of President Bush. Bush did not lie; he made a mistake--the same mistake everyone else in the world made, and a mistake Saddam, now by his own admission, encouraged them to make.
If Saddam was a victim, it was not of American lies and aggression but of his own too-successful efforts at misdirection.

I think this is a case of two bad guys contributing to a bad outcome. Saddam certainly made it easy for President Bush (Cheney?) to carry out their predetermined will. But, Saddam didn't force Bush to fabricate intelligence about Nigerian "yellow cake," etc.
But, had Saddam not been so boisterous (and belligerent), perhaps the President's motives to invade Iraq wouldn't have been enough.
