Interesting, signal is -83 on both of 'em. Guess -82.5 or something is the threshold between one bar and two.

I see dingbats with shorts tshirts no hat all the time in winter, it's like they don't have the brain power to figure out that winter = warm clothes. There are not people just going out for errands either, i see them in the fall, shorts, sandals, tshirt 40 degrees out.

Waste of tax dollors

Obama has sent a 14 million dollar project to Alaska through his stimulus funds package.Ouzinkie is a village which has a total size of 7.7 square miles, 6 square miles of which being land. Its population is approximately 200 people and it is located on Spruce Island.

High-speed delivery
$1.25 billion award President Obama announced during a town hall meeting at the University of Tampa on Thursday. No one wants this train

»www2.tbo.com/content/2010/jan/28···s-metro/

This government is not working for us. Those 2 projects are a huge waste of money, on things that are not needed. The train project was even being protested by people that are suppose to be passengers! I fear the future

Re: Waste of tax dollors

And these kinds of projects just started with Obama? As long we are arguing which party is the "good" one we are all going to hell in a handbasket because neither of these parties give one flying f**k what happens to this country, their pockets are lined and thats all that matters.

If those wonderful Republicans had given us term limits, a balanced budget amendment and the line item veto to the president we'd be in better shape now, hell Ms Pelosi and Mr Ried would have been kicked out by those limits by now.

In case you don't get what I'm referring to, back a few years the Republican members and candidates for both houses signed a "Contract with America" promising those things and many others, but did they deliver once elected?? Yeah, that's what I thought.....

they're building a new runway.. the current runway is 2000' and the new one is 3000'... it's a rural area with poor weather. it'll have a greater chance of landing issues and they'll have to use smaller planes thus making it even more dagerous. I don't see an issue with spending the money

The issue is what they spend the money on. That town doesnt even have traffic lights! And its not dangerous cause no one goes in or out of there often enough. That "project" is no high priority. And neither is that high speed rail in tampa that no one wants or will ride.

they probably get monthly or bi-weekly shipments of mail and supplies (groceries etc). This would be occurring every month of the year. Yes, there's only a few people that live there BUT it's still a "small" amount for how long it'll be used for

ok but in any case spending that money on that project right now is not important. I'm sure that money can be used for something else that can have a greater impact.

The thing that's amazing is how it will be just a *gravel* landing strip for $14 million dollars?

The labor in that area should be cheap. A half-mile of gravel should cost less than $1 million.

It sounds like they're importing gravel and machinery (plus operators) from more expensive areas. So, the stimulus will be for those areas (and the mariners who transport everything).

Re: Waste of tax dollors

yes.. you'll buy the gravel for 1 million and how does it get there?... how much do you think it'll cost to have it flown to that location?... sounds like the only way to access it is by flying after all.

How many people that live in that community can drive or are licensed to drive a car let alone a dump truck, grader, steam roller etc. ?

Labour should be cheap... do you think they're using shovels?... sure if they're hiring people to use a shovel or a pick axe and if you don't mind the project taking a hundred years.

This project is NOT in an urban area.. you have to look at the logistics.

edit:
googled the village
»maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&source···c=A&sa=X
looks like shipping it in would be possible BUT the cost of shipping that amount of gravel??

possibly.. but it will have to be done eventually and that doesn't mean it's a waste of tax dollars. More likely than not it'll be more expensive to do it later.

Right now I wish I had the voice of Dennis Kucinich. If I did I would call a press conference and start screaming into the microphones the following:
'WHERE IS THE GLOBAL WARMING! WHERE!....WHERE IS IT!...WE WERE TOLD BY SCIENTISTS THERE IS MAN MADE GOLBAL WARMING!'

Here in a few minutes I am going to go start a large tire fire, I'm going to go turn on all my appliances, and I'm going to start my dish van and my pickup truck and let them run idle. Hopefully that will give this global warming.....err...scratch that...climate change (that's better) a good start. I live in Tennessee, we generally don't get much snow and cold temperatures. Oh yeah, spring is supposed to be here in 6 weeks.

Finally

Finally got rid of the loaner Blackberry 8830. (spare phone at the office) I've been using it for about 4 months after my Mogul died. I've always hated Blackberries, even supporting them. (I work for a multi-service provider IT company).

Well today I got the okay to go get a replacement, and went with HTC Hero, running the Google Android OS, over the Palm Treo Pro that I was leaning towards. I've gotta say the Android OS is pretty slick, and I'm liking the phone alot, with it's 5MP camera and full flash support. Waaaaayyyy better browser than the Blackberry browser, tons of free aplications, and it's linux. What else do you need? I need a beer.

Pa PUC consumer hire & ex-Comcaster has fake degrees

The state's Public Utility Commission has given an important consumer-protection job to a woman who bought her undergrad and graduate degrees from an unaccredited online "university" in the Caribbean.

Six years ago, the same institution, Almeda University, awarded an associate degree to Wally from Albany, N.Y. - a 7-year-old dog.

She will direct the Bureau of Consumer Services, which deals with informal consumer complaints and mediates conflicts between utilities and consumers. She begins Feb. 8.

Bechtel's resume includes 28 years as a project manager and department head at UGI Utilities and time as a Philadelphia start-up [b]director of Comcast's consumer relations in 2008.

The Better Business Bureau's Web site says Almeda degrees are not legal for academic or business purposes in Oregon, New Jersey, North Dakota, Washington and Idaho. Education officials in Connecticut, Texas and Florida have also warned citizens that Almeda degrees may not be valid for public employment.

Who should care about the fake degrees? It seems to me that 28 years of experience as a project manager more than qualifies her for her position. If she didn't know what she was doing she wouldn't have lasted 28 years.

A college degree is no guarantee of competence. Neither is the lack of a degree any indicator of incompetence. All that a lack of a degree means anymore is that it guarantees that someone hasn't been exposed to the political indoctrination given in our institutes of "higher" learning.

He sure did, BIGTIME...and isn't it odd how few of the "liberal media" outlets are mentioning it. (Could it be that is because there is no such thing as the liberal media, outside of a few shows on MSNBC).
I thought he did pretty good. But, he did control the stage, with far more talk time than his critics. Not like a debate.

I'm curious if the questions were provided to him in advance. If so, he was exceptional at thinking on his feet. But, I bet he had time to prepare. (A couple of responses sounded far too detailed to have been top-of-mind).

He reminds me of President Reagan in some ways. Very good camera presence. And, very disarming in the face of polarized politics (from either extreme).

I like that latter part. The polarized extremes rely upon each other to play the game that there is a massive difference between each other, a fight between "good and evil, light and darkness." All the country's problems are due to the other side.

I like the way Obama treats that as just politics, doesn't take it personally, reduces the ideologues down to the religious sect they are.

It's finished! Finally!

Actually, it took about two weeks to produce this review, but there were a lot of long hours involved in its production.
