Hi there backfeed! I was just in the process of posting a note to you.

We've been doing a bit of traveling. We were down south for a couple of weeks. We did a loop and went to Nashville TN, Greenville SC, Columbia SC, then Richmond VA.

We came back, then proceeded to take another week and go up to Montreal, something we do every March. We just got back a couple of days ago.

The weather here has been glorious, we've got the screen house up already. Next week isn't supposed to be nice, but I'm sure the warm weather will be here again soon.

I hope things are blooming where you are like that are here, and that you and the Mrs. are enjoying this early taste of Spring!

Big party tomorrow - 50 people at dad's 90th birthday

Holding a big party tomorrow - 50 people at dad's 90th birthday party. Should be a fun gathering. We managed to round up 1/2 dozen of Dad's comtemporaries all in their 80's.

Smile, you're on candid camera

New camera system can match your face from live video feed with a database with 36 million faces in it in 1 sec. I'll bet the FBI and big city PDs will love to start putting this in to the field.

»news.yahoo.com/blogs/technology-···987.html

Big Brother is watching — and getting better at its job. At this year's Security Show expo in Japan, Hitachi Kokusai Electric took the wraps off a new surveillance camera system that can pick out your face— and compare it to 36 million records — in just one second. What's more, it can do this from live video, whereas older systems needed to analyze pre-recorded footage thus introducing a delay in the process.

Beyond just looking you up based on your face, the system scours archived footage and pulls up any clips it believes contain you, so that operators can quickly get a look at your recent activity.

Hitachi Kokusai Electric plans to make the system available for sale by next spring. You can see a demonstration of its capabilities in the video above, then start planning ways to foil it should you want to escape its all-seeing gaze.

I think they're already doing that in the UK.

Better start releasing common criminals from prison; we're going to need the space for political prisoners and protestors.

They're installing citizen tracking systems in Tampa, in time for the Republicans arrival.

I suppose the folks on the other side of the cameras aren't likely to reveal just who they're recording.
A glimpse of their voting records might yield a clue however.

Why arrest protesters? Protest is what the First Amendment protects. Just because we can usetech to be more intrusive doesn't make it right. The anonymity of being one in a crowd should be preserved.

Protest, yes. But not blocking entrances to buildings. And blocking streets stopping traffic, etc. As far as I'm concerned protesting's legality ends when it prevent me legally from going where I want, and when I want.

I have a lot of friends who live in Delaware. When you get your DMV photo taken you're not allowed to smile, and you can't wear glasses. It's kind of easy to figure out they're. Building a facial recognition database with the pictures....

Grandma Turned 80 Today (March 23rd)

We went up to Maine this weekend as my Grandma turned 80 today. We unfortunately could not have cake (she's a diabetic) but we went to Olive Garden and she had her favorite dish. I had chicken Alfredo, my mother had Lasagna, and Grandma and her husband had minestrone soup. We also had salad (which is so good) and their world famous breadsticks. Her husband accidentally let the cat out and he came back when we got home.

2012 also marks ten years since I graduated high school (Cedar Rapids IA Kennedy High School Class of 2002). Also in August will mark ten years from the date I moved from Iowa to Massachusetts.

On a final note, I am getting Xfinity home security installed in my side of the duplex next month. I'll post more about it in the open thread after its installed.

Got Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 for $286

Got it from newegg. It sold out within 2 days. I had to wait 3-4 days before they processed my order and shipped but it was worth it. Can't wait to get my hands on it next week when it arrives.

So use paper bags, they grow back, that's green.
If we wanted to, we could dig up a landfill after the organics rotted away, recycle the plastic that's in it and reuse it again. Or even make huge blocks of it and bury it in the ocean, back where it came.

Just got my first iPad today... it was reduced 100 bucks, so I said what the hell. Now I'm just waiting for my acer to kick the bucket so that I can grab a MacBook.

And to think I was dead set against Apple 5 years ago. Now I appreciate it's simplicity and how it works compared to the old NT kernel.

Dick Chaney gets a heart ---- ( transplant )

Former Vice President Dick Cheney received a heart transplant on Saturday, his office announced.

A statement from the former vice president's office said the 71-year-old is now recovering in the intensive care unit of Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., outside Washington.

The statement said Cheney had been on the transplant list for 20 months and did not know the identity of the donor.

Cheney, who served as President George W. Bush's vice president from 2001 to 2009, has a long history of heart problems. He suffered his first heart attack at age 37 and his fifth in 2010. In 1988, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery and has had several other heart surgeries since then.

In 2010, he had a battery-powered heart pump known as a Left Ventricular Assist Device implanted to keep his heart working - a device that is often used for short periods by patients awaiting a transplant.
