All those companies that pay HUGE fees to advertise on the SuperBowl lose big time with me. Every time a commercial comes on I switch channels.

I like to laugh, so if there's not a wardrobe malfunction going on somewhere, I'm gonna watch the commercials. It's the one time of year that I can stand advertising.

Chris Carter was pretty wet yesterday. Given Ray Lewis' storied career, I'd say we're in for more waterworks down the road.

Chris Carter said yesterday was the best day of his life. I wonder what his son thinks of that? As a father of three, the best days of my life all come when I experience them having their best days.

While I don’t really care who wins the Super Bowl, as I have no intense love or hate for either the 49ers of the Ravens, I would like to see Baltimore win for two reasons. 1) Ray Lewis 2) The Blind Side was a good movie. However, I do think the 49ers will win. Kaepernick’s arm and legs will carry their offence and I don’t think the Baltimore offensive can match the SF output.

Re: Go Ravens!

I'd like to see the 49ers win simply because I don't feel Baltimore deserves to be there. I know that's not nice to Baltimore fans but it just doesn't seem the Ravens are the best team. Denver is a better team but the defense screwed the pooch and before that, they probably should have let Payton throw a first down to end the game.

However, I have mixed emotions about the 49ers because Kaepernick seems a bit too cocky. Unless someone cleans his clock and he never recovers, he'll have an all-star career but I'm not sure he's done enough yet to be this cocky. Losing the big one would be better for him than winning. I think he'll be a better leader if he loses because his god complex might diminish enough that the rest of the team will play their hardest for him.

Re: Go Ravens!

I see where you’re coming from about not deserving to be there. That’s how I felt the Giants, especially after losing 5 out of 6 games in the second half of the season last year. If in Week 13 of the 2011 season if Jason Garrett didn’t ice his own kicker, the Cowboys would have won that came against the Cards, the Cowboys and Giants would have had the same record at 9-7. Granted NY swept the season series, but if anything else happened, and the Giants had one more loss, like if the Cowboys beat the Giants a week later on SNF, instead of losing by a Field Goal, the Giants wouldn’t have been in the playoffs. The I hate the Giants with a deep passion, and some of this is hatred speaking and some of this is fact, the NY Giants didn’t even deserve to be in the Playoffs last season and certainly didn’t deserve a ring. But that’s what happened. I feel the 2012 Ravens team is worlds better than the Giants were last year. They’re more dynamic and Flacco is better than baby Manning. Hopefully they do something other than hand the ball to Ray Rice every first down for 2 yard gain.

Re: Go Ravens!

Well I must admit I now believe Flacco is a great QB. The guy deserves the MVP and the Ravens deserve the W. He just doesn't make many mistakes. Although when he audibled a throw option in the fourth quarter when it was 3rd and 1, Boldin saved his bacon. Although the throw was perfect, Boldin made an absolutely stunning catch despite Rodger's hand in the middle of his chest!

Congratulations Ravens fans.

Ratbirds win 34-31. Game goes down to last minute. It has been an especially good post season this year. Lots of very close games.

Comcast dropping Powerboost with some speed increases

I got a letter from Comcast today saying they upped the speed of their Performance tier to 20/4. But speed tests show that with the speed increase, the Powerboost feature appears to be gone as well.

Comcast letter

Speed test

And some proof that Powerboost is gone:

DiffProbe release. January 2012. Build 1008.
Shaper Detection Module.

Connected to server 64.9.225.166.

Why does every provider in the US cap the upload speed at 4-5Mbs?

Because you can't do much more than that with single channel bonding.

I am pulling this out of my head but most broadband is asymmetrical. Putting more bandwidth to downloading than uploading making the connect more efficient. Unless one running a server one dose need much bandwidth for uploading. One could have a symmetrical connection but it will cost you on bandwidth so instead of down/up of 20Mbs / 5Mbs one is left with 14.5Mbs in each direction.

Re: Comcast dropping Powerboost with some speed increases

I don't think cable's DOCSIS bandwidth works that way. There are separate upload and download streams (frequencies/channels) and raising the upload doesn't mean you have to give up download. At some point what you say could be true. Cable plants have ~1Ghz of usable spectrum and until the combined download and upload consume all of that spectrum, changing either doesn't mean the other has to lose.

The coming DOCSIS spec has some lofty claims of possible 10Gbps over coax with a 2Gpbs return path.

I sure hope it hits here in California. I don't mind if they drop PB, it only in effect for about 10 or 20 seconds anyways, after that it goes to the sustain speed of 15 mbps anyways.

Why are laptop keys so darn hard to put back on?

If I wanted to clean the keyboard on my old windows 95 gateway computer, it was literally just a snap. Pull the keys off, clean and press them back on. With my modern gateway laptop, it is a huge pain in the ass to even put one key back on. They aren't simply snap and you're done. You have to finagle a piece of plastic that is attached to and swings on the back of the key with another free piece of plastic back onto the board itself.

Buses are packed

I tried to get a bus to Riverdale Shops in West Springfield (MA) but it was standing room only so I grabbed a bus to Holyoke Mall instead. After repeated ankle injuries, my days of standing on moving buses are over. Trains are not that bad as they ride on a smooth track but standing on a bus when it hits a pothole can put me back on crutches.

Buses tend to be busier in the beginning of the month and on the weekends.

Vodafone brings fiber optics to the Shard, gives you signal

Vodafone brings fiber optics to the Shard, gives you signal high above London

How do you bring mobile signal to the top of the tallest manmade vantage point in Western Europe? It’s something you may never have considered before, but mobile signal doesn’t travel upwards quite as well as it does across, making the 72nd floor of a modern skyscraper a bit of a stretch. That is to say, it’s a stretch unless you employ the right network of hidden tech…Which is exactly what Vodafone’s done with The Shard to give our customers a strong, reliable signal. Even at the very peak of London’s skyline.

‘The View from The Shard’ is the name for the two viewing platforms that sit at the peak of London’s newest and biggest skyscraper. They’re huge, panoramic platforms on the 69th and 72nd floors, boasting a 360 degree view of London and the surrounding area. And by ‘surrounding area’, we mean ‘the country’ – the scope of the platforms is so vast that on a clear day you can see for 40 miles. We’ve even heard talk of some people being able to see all the way to the ocean.

And on a slightly cloudy day in January? It’s no less impressive:

Just bought a Nintendo 3DS yesterday

I bought a Nintendo 3DS XL yesterday at Best Buy. Spent a couple of hours playing it. I also bought a Copy of New Super Mario Bros 2 and the first night of playing it I made it to World 6. I guess 20 years of playing various Mario games paid off. I also downloaded a few Game Boy games that I have not played since I was hospitalized in 1998.

I bought the larger 3DS and holding it can be a challenge with my big hands as it was designed for users who are primarily children but adults find it fun as well. It could also be health issues that make it hard to hold as well (I have a mild case of Cerebral Palsy and my hands are swollen from excessive salt intake).

I still have my original Game Boy, I also have the Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and DS lite. I have been playing video games since 1990 when I was 7 years old. At 29 I still enjoy the Mario games. I am not really interested in bloody, violent video games. The only violence in video games I'm used to is Mario stomping on a Goomba and Koopa, Mario throwing Bowser into lava or Piranha Plants spitting fireballs at Mario.

Super Bowl Blackout

I give a lot to the actual workers of the the game but if you can't keep the lights on for the so called biggest game of the the year what is next? Sure fiber in every state (that works and is affordable) haha.

Super Bowl power outage

Power is out at the Superdome, why did they have to suspend play as the lighting is more than adequate to play football. I've been to high school football games with less lighting as budget strapped school districts have to reduce the wattage of the bulbs to contain costs.
