I hope the weather is nice there. It's still a tad on the chilly side here in PA. Low 60's. I can't wait until it's 20 degrees warmer. It's been a loooooong cold winter. lol
Hi Jazz, happy Easter to you and yours also.... Busy here but it appears that spring is nearing, although some cold ahead but nothing drastic. Will have to mow grass soon.... Hope all is well for you and yours.......
Left my 7/16 inch wrench in Maine (critcal as it's used for CATV fittings) and I discovered this as I was switching out my modem for a gateway.
I had enough in Shop Your Way Rewards at Sears the bill for the wrench was paid in full. I accrued enough points after my shocks failed up in Maine the day of my grandmother's husband's wake. $1200 worth of repairs on credit at Sears auto center. I needed new brakes too as those were going to cause it to fail inspection and the sticker expires next month. I did the back shocks and all four brakes. The back brakes needed new calipers (rear disc) and rotors.
I bought this funny looking one so I'll know my CATV fitting wrench.
Would y'all PLEASE be willing to help share the story (and fundraiser) of Sophie-the-sick-Bengal ???? Link below and her full story is in the Update section.
Great Lakes Bengal Rescue is a 501c3 charity and this fundraiser goes directly to them !! The rescue's website is www.greatlakesbengalrescue.com
Happy ending now but her vet bill is over $1K, on top of the 6-8 Bengals taken in when a breeder was found dead in his home (ewww) and they all require extensive dentals for broken/bad teeth.
I wonder if this breeder was a for-profit kitten mill.
There are already too many kitties in this world that need homes never mind intentionally breed more. I was looking into getting a Maine Coon back in 2004 (when I got my cat, who was a free kitten) but the breeder wanted $600.
That cat has now cost me a fortune in vet bills with his thyroid problems in lab work alone.
My cat is neutered but there are a couple of un-neutered tomcats in my backyard and a female cat. Heaven forbid that female has kittens, I'd like to take the female in but I can't afford another cat right now as I have two aging animals (9 year old Malamute and my cat is 10) and when they get older the trips to the vet get more expensive. We call the elderly years in an animal "the expensive years".
Adorable cats !! Will be grateful if you would help share the story of "Sophie" and her fundraiser. And YES - to those who wonder - the rescue IS a 501c3 charity and this fundraiser goes directly to them. Thanks !!
There was an incident here where a dog (Pomeranian named Scrunchie) got hit in the head with garden shears over housebreaking issues (owner is a Springfield cop, probably not much longer pending outcome of the case) and it was dumped on a snow bank in Ludlow (MA) and the Ludlow cop that found it took him to the emergency vet and financed the down payment for the care on her credit card. The bill came to about $10,000 so there was a fundraiser to pay for the dog's care.
The dog now belongs to the cop that found him. As for the original owner, he is facing animal cruelty charges.
My grandma had what she claimed was a lilac point siamese but I think she was a siamese mix. She just showed up one day during a Nor'easter at Grandma's house before she moved to the current one she owns in Maine. She had 21 strays she would feed and her late husband (who passed earlier this month) would claim that they would wander in and out of the house but grandma denied that the strays would come in and that there was only one that would come in besides the two cats she owned (the siamese mix and a domestic longhair that was in poor health that died young).
I nicknamed grandma "housefullofcats" over her late husband's claim about the strays wandering in and out.
But here is the picture of the siamese mix, you be the judge: Siamese mix or purebred. The late cat's name was Ginger. She passed in 2011 shortly after my car accident (but not as a result of the car accident but we had to leave my cat in Maine with Grandma because we were driving back from Maine and they would not allow cats on the train/bus and the two cats did not get along). Ginger was in poor health and grandma had to have her put down.
So Gramma was feeding 21 feral cats. Was the nest on her property? Were the cats defecating and urinating in her flowerbeds? Waking her up at 3AM with their territorial drama? Soiling Gramp's shoes while mowing? If not, she was a menace and I'm glad not to be her neighbor.
We're talking someone who is an animal lover and at the time she lived out in the country.
All she has left now is that Malamute which I'm caring for (in addition to my cat) because she is in a rehab facility. She can't care for animals anymore let alone herself. But I have a lot of fun with that dog. Malamutes are active working class dogs and are better off with young active people as opposed to being inactive with elderly people.
When she worked for the state of Florida her office was at the airport and there were strays there she fed and when she changed jobs she left a bag of cat food so the co-workers could feed the strays (which they did).
There are people that love animals and there are people that hate animals. Grandma's aunt owned a cat (she hated cats) and she named it a French expletive and when she took it to the vet she said its name was kitty.
Fine, she lived in the country - so do I. I'm an animal lover and am lucky to have two adopted stray cats as house mates. I am also a suffering neighbor to a stray feeder.
The cats lived in a barn next door to grandma and they wandered over to her property.
I don't know where they did their business.
She did take in a tiny kitten that was very ill and her vet at the time treated her free of charge. The cat's name was Chloe. She lived to about 4 or 5 years old. She got her in 1996 and I know she had the cat in her new house which they moved into in the year 2000. By the time I moved to the New England area in 2002 Chloe went on the Heavenly Express.
I think she got Ginger in 1998 and Ginger passed in 2011. She has had two dogs abandoned on her. Her neighbor asked her to babysit a mastiff and never took it back and she wouldn't give it back (the dog passed in 2010) and my cousin abandoned a Malamute which is barely housebroken on her. She wouldn't give that up either. But we housebroke that dog.
Double Check the info before donating any money. Some of these donation things are scams.
This *is* legitimate and you can look at the rescue's website at »www.greatlakesbengalrescue.com They are a 501c3 charity that is ALL volunteers, too. Funds go directly to them.
Spring has sprung and so has the miserable world of allergies. I buy my allergy meds at BJ's as it's the best deal. I find either Zyrtec or Allegra works but Zyrtec is stronger.
I think this season it hit the hardest. I went to my grandma's house and was so full of dust mites from being vacant (but maintained by relatives) that I got so sick that I think my allergies have progressed to asthma. I went to the doctor the day after I got back and they gave me a breathing treatment. I had to go again on Friday for another breathing treatment and I was given an albuterol inhaler.
I've got to go for a pulmonary function test.
I think the nebulizers give better treatment. I'll have to pay out of pocket for one, I was quoted $190 for a battery operated Phillips Respironics jet nebulizer by a local medical supplier.
