New job opportunity.

A few months ago a boss / friend "Paul who was Facility and Refrigeration Supervisor" left the company for bigger and better things. Out of the blue I randomly get a phone call to come visit him at his new job. Paul and his new boss provided me a detailed tour of the new facility and asked if there were changes I would make on some of the machine installs and various other items. So being completely unprepared and caught off guard I was offered me a job as Electrical Supervisor for the facility by the site manager!

Hot Damn!

Apparently, my friend Paul had a copy of my resume and recommended me for the position. He even let his boss know that I would be asking for a few things if I was offered the job. My wife has epilepsy and can't drive so I am her ride to her neurologist and almost everywhere. We also have a 16 month old so its double duty for me. "I wouldn't have it any other way"

So long story short... I am taking the job starting the 30th!

I gave notice Wednesday and was given a counter offer Friday. Needles to say I am taking the new job regardless. It's 50 miles closer to home, no Chicago toll ways, no more grid lock, no more 2 hour trips home on Friday nights, new job is away from the city so there is practically no traffic, and the schools my little girl will go to are right down the road.

So a new job, a happy 1 year marriage anniversary, and found out I am going to be a dad again!!!

What a great week!!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!!

Town Wide Tag Sale Find

My town holds a yearly town wide tag/yard sale event that is well known for being one of the largest in VA. This year was generally a wash in terms of old tech, cameras, or fountain pens but I did find a very nice Western Electric 302 telephone set for $20:

It was a lot dirtier before I took that photo.

It was assembled in 1947 and refurbished in 1958 by Western Electric for Cincinnati Bell. How a phone from the Cincinnati Bell area ended up in C&P Telephone territory I have no idea, but it did. Someone must have moved with it.

It cleaned up very nicely after a few hours work. Of course being a Western Electric set it works perfectly with no repair. Calls are clear and the ringer is crisp. The dial is even fairly smooth given the age! This is the slightly less common model with a switch to disable the ringer electrically.

I took it apart, washed the plastics in soapy warm water, and re-assembled it. Then I applied 3M plastic protectant to it so that nice piano black shine would return.

Kitty news

Took my Bengal to the vet Tuesday for her rabies vaccine which is always not fun as she remembers past yucky purr-cedures there and doesn't like the barking dogs. She was good as gold but the vet found two lower teeth with tiny cavities. He was able to remove the teeth right then with sedation which was really great. I was afraid I'd need to rob Fort Knox but he gave me a great price. She's doing fine now.

Bob the stray is getting more trusting. He lets me stroke him while he eats and today he cautiously licked a dab of cat food gravy off my finger .

Our Future writ on the big screen.

Mrs and I saw Blade Runner 2049 last night. I had the eerie premonition that we were watching what could indeed be our future. Bleakness extended forever with such shallow slivers of hope to grasp, that one wonders if our species will outsmart itself if it hasn't done that already.
Harbour quiet moments. Seek reflection and try to become daily more human. Be kind to yourself and your neighbours.
Have a nice weekend fellow DSLRs

The end of AIM

20 years of AOL IM's are now over. AOL basic invented/expanded the IM format (a space now claimed by twitter/facebook/ )AOL's internal message was released to the public in 1997 and eventual absorbed ICQ among others while battling MS and YaHOO for market share (new code each week to block netscape multi format reader), sad to see one of the best of their legacy product go less choices everyday
