Just CNN Going for Shock and SensationalismI read that CNN article this morning. I wrote it off as nothing more than CNN's new regular attempts at sensationalism rather than good reporting. Sadly, most news organizations are quickly going down hill.

And now begins the lawsuits & sin taxes on cellphones.quote: "The biggest problem we have is that we know most environmental factors take several decades of exposure before we really see the consequences," said Dr. Keith Black, chairman of neurology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
The type of radiation coming out of a cell phone is called non-ionizing. It is not like an X-ray, but more like a very low-powered microwave oven.
"What microwave radiation does in most simplistic terms is similar to what happens to food in microwaves, essentially cooking the brain," Black said. "So in addition to leading to a development of cancer and tumors, there could be a whole host of other effects like cognitive memory function, since the memory temporal lobes are where we hold our cell phones."
So this doc says the phones are cooking your brain near your ear. So now begins the multi-decade lawsuits with everyone ever getting a brain tumor suing; until the EPA regulates warnings; and pols tax phones as a danger and the cost of a cellphone goes up by 10x. But because cellphones will never be banned, the costs will just escalate.

Think it is annoying now in restaurants with people on their phones. Just wait until they are all using speakerphone capability in order to keep phone away from their heads.

Look at the facts...Why is there a "standard" for maximum radiation exposure?
Do cellphones output more or less than the standard?
Is the area of exposure more localized when you hold it up to your head 1, 2, 3 or more hours a day?
How about the towers themselves?
What about satellites?
What is the ratio when compared to x-rays?

Radiation scare ...I hope that most folks one day understand just about everything we do or interact with on daily basis is radioactive to some degree. Like the sun or even bananas ... » en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ba ··· ent_doseNothing new to see here folks, just a slow news day at CNN.
|
| |
Re: Radiation scare ...I'll see if I can find the source... the amount of man-made radiation we receive is about the same as natural ambient radiation. But put another way, we receive double the radiation we did before earthlings started creating it. That's probably a faster rate than humanoids can adapt to, which takes generations.
There's also a major difference between ambient radiation and concentrated radiation and cellphones clearly generate the latter. Given that it's _plausible_ that cellphones could cause cancer over many years, it's not something to reject as a conspiracy or not possible. The onus is on the makers to show that it doesn't methinks.
I accept that it might and am OK with that... just as smokers accept that they might get cancer... not all do.

said by xenophon:But put another way, we receive double the radiation we did before earthlings started creating it. There is more than one kind of "radiation". The usual cancer causing scary radiation that we think of is the ionizing radiation nuclear power, atomic bomb, etc. Then there is heat coming from your baseboards - that's radiation too. And there is also the non-ionizing radiation that comes from radio waves.

Re: Radiation scare ...said by xenophon:I was of course of speaking about radiation that generates 'rems'.
And rems are used to measure ionizing radiation, not the kind of "radiation" coming from a radio transmitter.
|
| | | | | |
Re: Radiation scare ...yeah, understood.. was just talking natural vs manmade radiation comparison in rems, not cellphone. on cellphones though, even though non-ionizing so are microwave ovens. ok with putting that up to your head? i'm not buying into the cellphone scare but is plausible they can be damaging to some degree and is pretty foolish to confirm it's not possible.

Re: Radiation scare ...said by xenophon:i'm not buying into the cellphone scare but is plausible they can be damaging to some degree and is pretty foolish to confirm it's not possible. I agree, but the problem with this non-news (get back to me when they have proof), is that people hear "radiation" and will equate it to Chernobyl to a lesser degree. And these are two completely different animals.

All those idiots with cell phones glued to their heads driving down the road, in stores, theatres and virtually every other public place should start to drop like flies any day now. I'd say this is a win for the world...not a disaster. Now for effect if we could just get their heads to explode in the process...perfection.

But who has lived long enough to experience the long term effect of cell phone brain injury?
And how does cell phone radiation effect other body organs?
We are being used as guinee pigs!
These companies KNEW the dangers when the whole cell phone industry started. Yet they NEVER TOLD US. They Continue NOT TO TELL US!
Here's another cell phone company conspiracy that noone thinks about:
Can you 'turn off' your voicemail with the touch of a button?
No? Then why are we essentially 'forced' to receive voice messages?
I do NOT want to receive messages ALL the time. Sometimes I want to: "let it ring , let it ring, let it ring...."
Hey cell phone companies, How about some Warning Labels on your product box ???

Brought to you by the same people who botched Swine Flu...Apparently this must be a slow year as they can't conjur up an "epidemic" to scare people with. Before you read anything into this consider the source. Once you do that it becomes real easy to say "yawn...nothing to see here...move along".

DuhThe fact is, it has to be doing something. (don't fool yourself) And I could care less. Anyone that understands radio waves at different frequencies knows there has to be something happening. Its a fact you can count on. But no one cares, and neither do I. We will all continue to use our cell phones. This crap is everywhere, and always will be. The fact you have it up against your head makes it worse......so what!
If the interwebs wont screw us all for life, the cell phones will if you are a very heavy user and up to your head all the time.

dataso now we all need data plans (vs voice plans) or annoying earbuds so we can keep the phone as far away as possible from our heads and reproductive organs etc. Perfect. did ATT pay for this study? This was like the "dont drive and talk" campaign engineered by the cell industry to increase blue tooth sales. Yet people are still distracted driving? how can that be? Unintended acceleration?

So you won't even consider that it could be true?Do you guys who scoff at this do so just because there's no evidence, or would you scoff even if there was a smoking gun? I get the feeling most of you think its BS regardless of evidence or lack thereof. I'm not saying I believe, but I'm at least willing to consider that its actually true.
