Who Knew FiOS Installers Used Amazon Kindles?
Verizon's latest salvo in cable ad wars....

Just as an amusing non-news aside, CNET notes that Verizon's latest ad for FiOS features a FiOS installer who uses an Amazon Kindle to schedule installation appointments. Apparently, Verizon just wanted to portray themselves as technically sophisticated (the cable guy in the ad still uses a clipboard), even if FiOS techs don't use e-book readers for appointments, and ironically the Kindle is powered by Sprint EVDO. Maybe Verizon got an Amazon kickback? The telco can be given a little slack, given their competitors have been lying about FiOS needing a satellite dish and trying to confuse customers into thinking that last mile and core network fiber are the same thing. Who knew ad wars could be so entertaining?

They read all the time. It is the comprehension that gets them.

Depends on the area. Around here Verizon wireless uses At&t landlines. In Missouri City, Texas the At&t store uses Verizon land lines.

Exactly. What people are forgetting is that these companies are TOTALLY separate entities. Verizon landline =/= Verizone wireless just as Sprint/Embarq =/= Sprint Wireless/Nextel just as AT&T landline =/= AT&T Wireless. With how huge these companies are, it'd be a logistics nightmare to combine them.

And the fact that these companies are in totally different fields, they are fully in the right here and shouldn't be lynched on a pissy little misnomer. Now say if a VZW tech was using a Nextel phone, that'd be another case altogether.

To even further call out these people trying to point fingers at Verizon for anything they can, they are using devices from AMAZON and from a common sense standpoint, Verizon isn't actually paying for service from Sprint for these or has a business account with sprint just for these as Amazon handles that directly.

I swear, some people should have pace-makers installed to free up the resources. Breathing and heart beat taxes their whole system, all of their brain cells wasted on life support.-two bit brains, and the second bit is wasted on parity! ~head_spaz

Not what they use.

That is kinda funny because that's not what they use.
they use an Intermec CN3
But maybe the Advertising company just improvised. Its unlikely Verizon would have let them borrow their actual device for a commercial. Probably proprietary software on them to connect to their core systems. Their Network security people probably said. No Way!.

Re: While We're in Nitpicking Mode,

Cable companies send out a tech every disconnect to physically disconnect the feed to someones house or business. Im guessing bc people can still get the analog feed without the STB's....Sooooo theres nothing wrong with their ad.

I never had a tech stop by my residence the two times that I have dropped cable. All I had to do was drop my STB off at the local offie.

about the Kindle...

Probably a screw up by the ad agency that produced the TV spot. Amusing, but hardly earth shaking news.

Re: about the Kindle...

When I saw Amazon Kindle, I thought it was something from the actual Amazon and not the website. Then I clicked the link.LOL
