User-generated-content sites give you an important place in history
(old news - 03:09PM Sunday Dec 17 2006)
tags: content
For nearly eighty years, TIME has been naming a “Person of the Year” who they feel has been the most influential person in creating that year’s news. For 2006, that person is YOU. TIME believes that the increasing importance of user-generated-contents sites such as YouTube and MySpace makes it possible for users to have a more influential impact upon global news than any individual person.

Don't think that's oil; he's been whippin' his skippy like a screen door in a hurricane -- that looks like wx3.fuc_ingfreemovies.com on his screen . . . not that I've _ever_been there, of course

Re: Naturally!

Person of the year

All 1.1 billion of us:

P.S.> read the statistics about internet penetration(US 69.3%) and then tell me how the US is trailing the world. Guess what - we aren't. We are leading the world no matter how often BBR news items complain about how the US is trailing the world.

You can drill down thru the stats by clicking on the regions.

Re: Naturally!

Exactly, why should we care about internet penetration?

I just care about myself getting online, who cares about everyone else or the rest of the world for that matter

based on the flawed assumption that growth by population VS growth of affordable internet are directly related.

it says "69.3%" of the population of the US is on the internet(not the entire NA region) now the question is, how many of them are getting a connection over 56k ? 128k ? 1024k ? probably a lower percentage then you think(not to mention that is based on a population of under 300m people).

acceptance speech

Oh, wow! I mean, I never expected...!

Gee...

Well, I don't really have a speech prepared...

I guess first I'd like to thank God, and of course Je-Sus, who I couldn't have done this without... and of course my mom and dad! (Hi MOM, DAD!!) I have so many people to thank... let's see: my first grade teacher Ms. Thompson, my coach who taught me the 'handshake of success' lol, uh, my preacher. I hope I'm not leaving anyone out! Thank you, thank you!!!

Depends on what blogs you read. There are many blogs out there that give an unfiltered look at what is going on around this crazy world. Not all of it meaningless type stuff.

Re: What the cover should have looked like

Ya know..

For the first time in human history, the summary of all knowledge we have accumulated as a species is available to anyone with $20/mo not living in China, Iran, or Cuba.

With all the turmoil, angst and trouble we face today as a species, never in the history of human endeavor have so many had so much access to so much knowledge.

To totally rip off Churchill.

Every bloody one of them, including FOX, has a bias that shines thru their reporting. So tired of Fox getting singled out for this while the others slide right by.

Makes one wonder, doesn't it? You know, with a slogan like "Fair and Balanced", which is the most P.T. Barnum-ish wagonload of tripe to come down the pike in a century or so, you'd think people would give them a break and stop singling them out as a bad example of bias. Yeah, I'm wondering about that right now...

DSLR Article Post Misses the Point

Time has rendered itself useless and its "Person of the Year" entirely meaningless. To paraphrase that sage of our time IncrediBoy, if everyone's a superhero, then no one is.

Time's "Of The Year" distinction was once intended to highlight individuals who made a difference in the world, for better or worse. Saying, uh, well EVERYONE made a difference is more than a copout and not cute in the least.

Even the wackos at Fark put that correct spin on the pathetic Time choice right from the get-go (and they published this a LOT earlier).

Lazy and supremely cowardly editors who should be ashamed to collect their paychecks. (I meant Time's ).
