Verizon hashing out video content deal
(old news - 12:40PM Tuesday Nov 07 2006)
tags: Video · telco · content
Verizon is negotiating a deal with YouTube that will allow the telco to offer YouTube video clips to Verizon Wireless VCAST and Verizon Fios customers. According to Reuters, the deal may give Verizon the exclusive right to carry YouTube videos for a limited period of time. According to the Wall Street Journal, Verizon has been nervous about such a deal "because of legal concerns surrounding YouTube's content."

Re: .

I think Verizon is looking to be the only company allowed to offer YouTube content as a special service for cell phones and on-demand TV.
On a similar point, uploading your content to YouTube, you are giving away a lot of your own intellectual property rights. Just read their TOS.

Most of it will probably look less pixelated on the smaller screen of a phone.

lame unless they change it for high bandwidth video

Now this would be interesting if they made a like a youtube/fios specific videos. Like others said no one wants to watch blurry videos on a fast connection.

But the problem with doing something with a deal like this is, in comes the company made high rez videos and no more user made videos. I can see it now, a youtube site for FIOS users, and the top videos are commercials in high def.

If that's what people want, why not give it to them?

Re: sdf

It won't. Very much like retail, ISPs are always looking for revenue streams. Apparently free online video is the latest fad that helps promote that.

When the clutter and bullshit finally simmers down to useful content that people give a shit about then it just might stop.

This thread shows up in Google News

Not in their generic News layout, but in the customized area where I have a filter setup for Verizon and FIOS. Anyways, kudos to dslreports.com to getting themselves syndicated via Google News!

I can't believe Americans are watching this sh*t

and now we have Verizons exec actually trying to somehow make a business model out of this crap? Oh dear, so this is what they call creative thinking? or is it free-form thinking? or is it free flow brainstroming? I can't keep up with all the sh*t they preach in business school anymore!

Its seems Japanese watch it just as much if not more. Judging from most the clips seem to be of Japanese gameshows/shows.
