iPhone 5 Drops in Early October
AT&T VP Tells Employees to Get Ready
by Karl Bode Friday 19-Aug-2011 tags: business · wireless · wireless
An employee tells the Boy Genius Report that AT&T is preparing for the launch of the iPhone 5 to take place in early October. "Expect things to get really, really busy in the next 35-50 days, so prepare your teams accordingly," an AT&T VP tells employees. Apple should announce the next incarnation of the iPhone in September according to the report -- though as usual AT&T and Apple aren't commenting officially. An LTE version of the iPhone is currently being tested on Verizon and AT&T networks, and AT&T was recently found installing LTE gear in Apple stores to give the illusion of better LTE coverage. This fall's version of the iPhone isn't expected to support the new networks, as Apple continues to battle with limited battery life and carriers work to get their LTE networks deployed more fully (or at all, in AT&T's case). AT&T will have just 15 markets wired for LTE compared to Verizon's 175, putting them in an ugly marketing spot should the LTE iPhone somehow find its way to store shelves this fall.

I hear ya dude

After what apple been doing to samsung in eu and the ereader issue on their iphones and ipads. I thought microsoft was bad back in the day but apple it looking really greedy. I will not pay for over priced crap from them, can't change a battery unless the new one does i don't think they would that means you would not have to buy a new one so soon. ipad has no ports to connect with. I took a call at work where poor guy had got internet with router and only had the ipad the best buy sales guy told him be great for taking classes online for college, you can't login the router to setup his wifi. I had to explain what you really need for that setup. while the ipad nice toy not for doing classes online at school god I hate stupid sales guys with no clue what they sale.

You're right: AT&T has excellent LTE coverage. This is just icing on the cake!

Shame on Karl for reporting such a falsehood!

AT&T and Apple.

AT&T and Apple are perfect for each other.

The ultimate shit sandwich. Like peanut butter and jelly... only instead of peanut butter and jelly, feces and vomit.

Screw AT&T.

'Nuff said.

I don't care if it's the iPhone 5000. If it's on AT&T, forget it.

Verizon will probably still be stuck on the 4.2.x firmware line while AT&T has iPhone 5 and iOS 5. Just a guess given how it goes so far.

Personally... my order (I'm not an AT&T fan, or any other):

AT&T (current)
T-Mobile
Sprint
Verizon Wireless

I had bad experiences with them in the past, and I see no reason for me to give them my business if my service works on other carriers.

That technically is correct if you are referring to 5G as being the fifth generation device.

Don't you know the "G" is added in automatically? 25% of people think that the iPhone 4 gives them 4G speeds, so its bound to carry over.

Was the first iPhone a 1G analog? And you are correct, countless number of people I know think they are on 4G with their iPhones LOL

You are correct.. Most people don't understand what the G means. Also, most people don't understand that there isn't a true 4G mobile internet provider out there yet.

First they release 5, everyone lines up and wets their pants to get one, then they release a 5G which is slightly better than 5, throw away their 5 and buy a 5G, and then the 5GS. Why miss out on the opportunity for people to buy the same thing more than once.

ive had an iphone 3g, iphone 4...

And an I pad and I pods.

Not this time. I now use an iconia a500 and honeycomb is what ios wishes it could be.

My next phone will be a Droid charge.

Apple thinks its users are stupid. Hopefully more techies who used iPhones switch to android shortly.

I program apps and use both systems. Do you? How can so many people have opinions on which system is better when they have only used one? And playing on a buddy's phone doesn't count...

LTE or my iPhone 4 is good enough.

If it does not have LTE then I can wait.

Re: LTE or my iPhone 4 is good enough.

The iOS and it's devices still offer a far superior experience than any Android out there. I first tried a Nexus One but the poor thing drowned. Using it on a daily basis was a struggle (all those miniscule user interface related stuff escalate) compared to the iPhone 3G I had prior.

Although Android has come a long way since the Nexus One as evidenced with my use of the Thunderbolt, iOS, I believe, is still superior albeit boring.

The honeycomb stuff has good potential but again it's a mess compared to iOS in iPad.

I will certainly move back to an iPhone once an LTE version is available and hopefully the user interface is a little jizzed up with the fifth iteration.
