need a cheap test modem? ebay has the answer by David Monday 31-Jan-2011 Recently speaking to a field tech I found the netopia modems they have were the netopia 3342 series of 1 port USB dsl modems. Now I looked on ebay at the time and found these little devices go for about $7.95 a piece (which seems pretty cheap, if all you wanted to do is diagnose your dsl). Most you would need would be a laptop, this device and a phone cable. the USB modem would draw power off the laptop and the connection information would be inside the USB modem's memory. The software you can get from the netopia website and it appears compatible with PC as well as MAC.
Anyway it's food for thought and I figured it was worth mentioning. I figure this might be worth to keep around in any DSL techie's DSL troubleshooting kit.
