| The Great Orion Nebula - I've posted images of this massive dust and gas cloud in the Winter constellation of Orion before, but none this deeply exposed. Astronomers now believe we're seeing into a cosmic bubble that's been cleared by the stellar winds from the hot stars born within, and opened on the side facing us.
A collaborative effort by Dr. Greg Parker and myself.
This is actually a stitched mosaic of two shots, to increase the overall resolution beyond the native resolution of the Starlight Xpress SXV-H9C astro camera.
Total of 268 images at 20 seconds each using SXV-H9C camera on 11" f/1.85 Hyperstar equipped Celestron C11. Acquired and stacked in Maxim DL at Greg's observatory in Hampshire, UK and processed through FITS Liberator v2 and Photoshop CS2 (with my Astronomy Tools actions, of course) in Florida, USA. |

 | Incredibly clear and sharp. I still find it hard to believe that up in the sky, the part of our universe that we can't see with the naked eye is so gorgeous. Thank you for your continued sharing of the shots and the education. hey mods · » Thursday May 11th, @05:13PM

 | You and Dr. Parker deserve a round of applause and pats on the back for this one, Noel. Extraordinary! hey mods · » Thursday May 11th, @05:15PM

 | Always very nice work. That you always include an informative paragraph or two about the image is really thoughtful. Right off, one can tell that this shot is a notch higher and thanks to the info, I know why. hey mods · » Thursday May 11th, @05:41PM

 | Awesome! Do you take requests? Can you get a good shot of the Trapezium?
I don't expect a close-up like this one:
»www.seds.org/Messier/Pic ··· oiii.jpg
but a shot that's as clear and sharp as the one you posted here that highlights the Trapezium would be cool.
Thanks for sharing.hey mods · » Thursday May 11th, @07:06PM

 | Thanks everyone. :)
Fractalman93, yes, I do have a good Trapezium closeup. For those who don't know, the Trapezium is the close cluster of bright stars in the nebula, near the center of the very bright area at about the upper-left rule of thirds position in the above image.
Here's a Trapezium region closeup I took last year at 5000mm f/20 through my own telescope... This image is magnified a good deal more than the image above.
