Inside of flower. I have the Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro and I'm not all that impressed with the level of detail. Is the Canon version better?

I don't know diddly about one lens or another, but I do know art when I see it. I know this is supposed to be a macro, and it is, but it's also super artistic.

Thank you jaykay. I try to improve with each image. Have to say, Macro is a hard area. Too bad the equipment is sooooooo expensive.

It isn't the lens. The Sigma 105mm macro produces as much detail as Canon or any other 90/100/105mm macro lens. Judging from the shot it looks more like lack of DOF and camera shake to me is what caused the missing details.

might be lack of dof but no camera shake. Using tripod and electronic shutter release. Seems every macro comes out this way. Is it possible the lense is defective?

Possible but I honestly doubt it. It looks much more like user error to me. Try leaving the EXIF intact on a few so I can see what settings you are using.
