The idea is to have the exact same focus and exposure on each one and leave PLENTY of room (even if it means taking two rows of photos). Photoshop CS2 and forward have had no problem dealing with stitching automatically given enough processing power. Additionally, taking panos of wide open spaces is much easier than shooting panos in smaller spaces, due to less pronounced distortion.
