 | It took 62 hours on a new 27" iMac with the optional i7 processor. Everything else is stock. All of the fine resolution and anti-aliasing controls were pushed very hard, probably not to the best effect - I'm still a toddler with Terragen 2. When I ran the final render you see, I didn't know I could adjust the number of threads used in the software. So it only ran with 4 threads - half the cpu's available horsepower. Even so, the iMac got hot as a toaster on top, very unnerving. I've read that these machines have always run warm, but this is like a sidewalk at high noon. Supposedly they turn themselves off when the temperature exceeds spec, so why not let the chip run full throttle? I've now turned on all 8 threads available for rendering. Test renders that took my 10 year old G4 an hour or more to create now get done in less than 1-1/2 minutes. That's a 40X jump for me. I just sit here slack-jawed at what this machine is doing as I watch the pictures assembling themselves in 8 different blocks at the same time. More to follow.... hey mods · » Wednesday August 11th, @11:20PM
